An amazing start in Reception!

Date: 11th Sep 2026 @ 3:00pm

What a fantastic first week we have had in Reception! The children have settled wonderfully into school life and we are already so proud of everything they have achieved. They have been busy making new friends, getting to know the adults in their classrooms, and becoming familiar with our daily routines and learning environment.

This week, our topic has been"Being Me in My World". In English, we have enjoyed reading Our Class Is a Family, helping the children understand the importance of kindness, belonging, and working together as part of a class community. The children also created self-portraits and shared information about themselves and their families.

In Maths, we have been developing our counting skills through number songs, counting games, and practical activities. The children have practised counting forwards to 10, finding one more than a given number, and using one-to-one correspondence when counting objects.

We have also begun our Little Wandle Foundations for Phonics sessions, exploring nursery rhymes, listening games, voice sounds, rhyming activities, and beginning to identify the sounds that words start with.

Alongside all of this learning, the children have spent lots of time exploring our continuous provision areas, building relationships with their peers, and growing in confidence every day. We are so pleased with how well they have adjusted to Reception and cannot wait to see what they achieve next week!
