Autumn 2 in Nursery – A Half Term Full of Stories, Exploration and Celebration
Date: 15th Jan 2026 @ 12:22pm
Autumn 2 has been a busy and exciting half term in Nursery! Our learning has been centred around Traditional Tales, giving the children lots of opportunities to explore familiar stories, characters and themes through play, talk and creativity.
Throughout the half term, the children enjoyed listening to and retelling traditional tales, acting them out in role play and small-world areas, and exploring story characters through art, construction and mark-making. These activities supported the children’s communication and language, helping them to build confidence in sharing ideas, using new vocabulary and joining in with familiar story language.
We also focused on developing early reading skills, such as holding books correctly, recognising the front cover and talking about pictures. In maths, the children practised counting, recognising shapes and using number language through fun, practical activities linked to our stories.
As the nights grew darker and we began counting down to Christmas, we kept the energy high in Nursery! In the final weeks of the term, the children explored Christmas traditions, enjoyed festive activities and created some lovely artwork to take home. We were especially excited to welcome a special visit from Father Christmas, which brought lots of smiles and excitement. The children also loved showing off their festive outfits during our very own Christmas catwalk 🎄✨.
We are incredibly proud of how much the children have grown in confidence, independence and curiosity this term. Thank you for your continued support — we hope you all have a safe and restful holiday, enjoy making special memories together, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back in January, along with some new faces joining our Nursery family!
