Curriculum Week in Year 4 was a rich tapestry of emotional literacy and cultural exploration. Pupils began by diving into the Zones of Regulation, learning to identify and manage their emotions through colour-coded zones. Through speaking and listening activities, they shared strategies for calming down, staying focused, or energizing themselves. Art played a central role—children created expressive emotion wheels and personal regulation posters, linking feelings to real-life scenarios and building empathy across the classroom.
Later in the week, Black History Day brought the fascinating story of the Ivory Bangle Lady to life. Discovered in Roman York, her African heritage sparked curiosity and pride. Pupils researched her burial site, discussed her significance, and responded through powerful artwork and creating a non-chronological report.
The week showcased how history, emotion, and creativity can intertwine to deepen understanding and celebrate diverse voices.
