Year 4 Weekly Blog

We’ve had another fantastic week in Year 4 with lots of practical learning and new skills!

🧪 Science – Tooth Decay Experiment

This week we carried out an exciting investigation into how different drinks affect our teeth. Instead of real teeth, we used eggshells because their surface is similar to tooth enamel.

We placed eggshells into:

  • Coke
  • Water
  • Orange juice
  • Milk

We observed how the shells changed over time. Coke and juice caused the most damage, while water kept the eggshells looking normal. It helped us understand why brushing our teeth and choosing healthy drinks is so important!

✍️ Handwriting

In English, we continued working on neat, joined handwriting. We practised forming tricky joins, keeping our letters the same size, and making sure our writing sits neatly on the line. Our books are looking smarter every week!

🧭 PE – Orienteering

In PE, we took part in orienteering. We used maps, symbols, and teamwork to find markers around the playground. It was great for building problem‑solving skills—and we had lots of fun running around too!

🎶 Music – Learning the Recorder

We also started learning how to play the recorder. We practised holding it correctly, blowing gently to make a clear sound, and playing our first notes. Everyone tried really hard, and Year 4 is already sounding musical!
