Nursery Blog – All Aboard the Train! πŸš‚

Date: 3rd Jul 2025 @ 8:03am

Week Commencing 30/06/2025

This week in Nursery we’ve continued our exciting topic ‘Where in the World Do I Want to Go?’, with a focus on destinations we can travel to by train! Our story of the week was Maisy Goes on Holiday by Lucy Cousins– a lovely story that helped us explore holidays, travel, and adventure!

πŸš‹ Talking Trains and Trams
The children really enjoyed sharing their own experiences of riding trams and trains – many recognised familiar journeys and loved talking about where they’ve travelled with their families!

πŸ—ΊοΈ Family Group Learning – Mapping Adventures
In our family groups, the children worked hard on giving meaning to their marks by creating maps of the local area and beyond! Each child created three locations on their map and used lines, circles and shapes to represent roads, buildings and landmarks. The children then shared their maps and explained where they’d like to go – fantastic imagination and language development on show!

πŸ”’ Maths – Counting Bears
We’ve been strengthening our number recognition and 1:1 counting this week using our number bear cards. The children matched the correct number of bear counters to the numerals shown on the cards – they were so proud of their careful counting!

🚦 Moving Like Vehicles
In our physical development learning, we took our bodies outside and moved like different types of transport. The children showed brilliant coordination and spatial awareness as they moved under, over, around and through a fun obstacle course – zooming like cars, crawling like trains, and gliding like planes!

πŸ–ΌοΈ Communication and Language – Picture Talk
This week we introduced a picture of a train by the beach as our Pobble-style discussion image. The children observed carefully and used their imagination to talk about what they could see, where the train might be going, and what they might do if they were on that train. Wonderful speaking and listening all round!

✍️ Teacher-Focused Activities
We’ve been working hard on our name writing this week – each child practiced writing their name on their own train sheet, developing both pencil control and confidence!
We also explored junk modelling again this week – this time to build our very own trains using boxes, tubes and bottle tops. The creativity was incredible!

πŸ“š PSHE – The Tale of Baby Beetroot
In our PSHE learning we read The Tale of Baby Beetroot and talked about kindness – how we can be kind to others and what kindness looks like in our nursery. The children came up with some lovely ideas!

πŸ”€ Phonics Focus – Sound of the Week: Jj
Our phonics learning this week focused on the sound ‘Jj’ – the children loved orally blending and identifying words like jam, jug, jeep and jet! They even had a go at forming the letter J with their fingers and in the air.

It’s been another fun and busy week of learning and exploring in Nursery – well done everyone! πŸš‚πŸŒŸ
