Nursery Blog – All Aboard the Naughty Bus! πŸšŒπŸŒ‰ 09.06.25

Date: 10th Jun 2025 @ 4:00pm

This week we have kicked off our new Summer 2 topic – Where in the world do I want to go? We began our journey close to home by exploring travel and transport, using the story Naughty Bus by Jan Oke as our focus text.

🚌 Songs & Stories
In our family groups, we built a repertoire of well-loved travel songs including The Wheels on the Bus and London Bridge is Falling Down. We even travelled (in our imaginations!) to London, where we learnt about some of the city’s most famous landmarks. The children loved spotting Big Ben, Tower Bridge, and the London Eye!

🎨 EAD – Drawing Landmarks
This week, we really challenged the children’s mark-making and drawing skills. Using images of famous London landmarks, the children were encouraged to draw with more detail and purpose. They carefully selected colours and created fantastic shapes to represent the buildings – what amazing artists we have in Nursery!

🎡 Pattern & Movement
As a class, we created our very own action song to help us learn about repeating patterns. Each child contributed a movement, and together we practiced remembering and repeating them – a fun and active way to learn!

πŸ‘” Father’s Day Creations
In our teacher-led activity, the children worked hard to create their Father’s Day gifts. They decorated paper ties and used their hands to create faces – with handprints painted in skin tones and black finger “hair”! Once put together, each child had made a special cartoon-style portrait for someone they love.

πŸ”€ Phonics Focus – B is for...
Our sound of the week was B. The children did brilliantly thinking of words beginning with the ‘B’ sound – bus, balloon, bear and more! They are really starting to tune in to initial sounds in words.

🌈 Think Equal – Working Together
This week’s PSHE focus was all about teamwork. The children worked in small groups to rip coloured paper and collaborate on a whole-class rainbow collage. It was wonderful to see everyone working together, communicating and creating something beautiful as a team.

We’ve had a brilliant start to our new topic and can’t wait to see where our next adventure takes us! πŸ—ΊοΈπŸšŒπŸŒˆ
