The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Date: 23rd Apr 2026 @ 8:21am
This term we have been learning about growth and change. For the last two weeks, the children have been exploring the story - The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. We have used the story to help us learn new workds, practice our counting and talk about how living things grow.
The children have enjoyed reading the story together, using our special story sakc with puppets and props. This helped the children understand the story and join in with the repeated parts. We have also been learning about 3D shapes, drawing circles and using our hands to build caterpillars and butterflies. The children have been practicing important skills such as looking carefully, talking about what they see, and using tools with control.
A very exciting part of our learning has been our real caterpillar visitors. The children have been watching them every day! we hae talked about how they start as tiny caterpillars, how they eat and grow, and how they will soon make a chrysalis. The children have been using words like tiny, big, change, grow, caterpillar, chrysalis and butterfly.
The children have been very gentle and respectful when observing the caterpillars. they have enjoyed making predictions such as "What will happen next?" and "When will they change?". This has helped them develop their speaking and thinking skills. We are very proud of how engaged and curious the children have been. They have shown great excitement and care as they watch the caterpillars grow. Soon, we hope to see them turn into butterflies - a very special moment for everyone.
Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to sharing more updates as our caterpillars continue their amazing journey.
