This Week In Reception (19.10.26)
Date: 23rd Oct 2026 @ 12:14pm
This week, Reception children have been learning all about the World of Work. Through stories, discussions, role play and hands-on activities, the children explored different jobs from the past, present and future.
We began the week by reading The Tiger Who Came to Tea and looking at some of the jobs featured in the story, including the milkman, baker and grocer's. The children learned how some of these jobs have changed over time and discussed how we buy food and other essentials today. They enjoyed making baker's hats and creating delicious-looking breads and cakes from playdough.
As the week continued, we compared jobs from the past with those we see today. The children used language such as "In the past..." and "Now..." to talk about the differences they noticed.
The children also learned about people who help us in our community, including teachers, firefighters, police officers, doctors and paramedics. Through small world play, construction activities and role-play scenarios, they explored how these important people help keep us safe and healthy.
Later in the week, the children thought about their own hopes and dreams for the future. They enjoyed talking about what they would like to be when they grow up and created pictures and writing to share their ideas. We loved hearing about the wide range of careers they are already interested in.
To finish our learning, we celebrated with a fantastic World of Work Dress-Up Day. The children came dressed as a variety of different professionals and confidently spoke about their chosen jobs and how they help others. It was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm and imagination.
Well done, Reception, for a brilliant week of learning, exploring and dreaming about your future careers! ⭐️
