This Week In Reception (28.09.26)

What a fantastic week we have had in Reception! The children have continued to settle into classroom routines and have been busy exploring our topic, Being Me in My World. This week, we have been learning more about our local area and developing our mathematical understanding through counting and matching numerals. 

In our Understanding the World learning, we looked at maps of our local area and talked about places that are familiar to us. The children enjoyed discussing where they live and recognising some local landmarks. Using the construction blocks, they worked collaboratively to create a large-scale model of our community, showing great imagination and teamwork. 

In Maths, we focused on 1:1 counting and matching numerals to quantities. The children practised carefully counting groups of objects, ensuring each object was counted once, before matching the correct numeral. We used a variety of practical resources and games to help secure this important early maths skill. We were impressed with the children's confidence and perseverance when tackling number challenges. 

During our independent learning, the children continued to explore the provision areas, building houses and homes in the construction area, creating self-portraits in the creative workshop, and engaging in imaginative role play inspired by their own family experiences. It has been wonderful to see them developing new friendships and sharing ideas with one another.

Our phonics sessions have continued daily, with the children becoming increasingly confident at recognising sounds, joining in with oral blending activities and applying their learning during play. We have also enjoyed sharing stories together and discussing the characters, settings and events we have read about.

We are incredibly proud of how well the children are embracing new challenges and showing our school values every day. Thank you for your continued support at home. We look forward to another exciting week of learning ahead!
