This Week in Reception (WB 2.2.26)

Date: 3rd Feb 2026 @ 11:01am

We have had a lovely and very busy week in Reception, full of learning, creativity and fun!

Literacy
This week we introduced a new story, My Granny Went to Market. The children loved following Granny on her journey around the world and discovering the different countries she visited. We talked about what she saw in each country and explored new vocabulary linked to travel and places. To bring the story to life, the children acted out different parts of the book, taking on roles and using actions and expression. It was wonderful to see their confidence and imagination grow!

Maths
In Maths, our focus was practical addition. The children used a range of hands-on resources to add different amounts, helping them to understand that addition means finding a total. We also practised using key vocabulary linked to addition, such as add, altogether, total and equals. The children did a fantastic job explaining their thinking while counting carefully.

KUW (Understanding of the World)
In KUW, we learned about a new artist, Wassily Kandinsky. The children explored his colourful, abstract artwork and talked about shapes, colours and patterns. They then recreated Kandinsky-inspired pieces using a variety of resources, including paint, different colours and playdough. Each creation was unique and full of creativity!

Well done, Reception, for another brilliant week of learning. We are so proud of all your hard work! 🌟
