This Week In Reception (WB 23.06.25)

Date: 26th Jun 2025 @ 9:23am

This week in Reception, we’ve had a fin-tastic time exploring the wonders of the sea and diving deeper into our learning across the curriculum!

🦀 English
In English, we explored the non-fiction book My First Book of Sea Creatures. The children were fascinated by the incredible facts about life under the sea – from gigantic whales to wobbly jellyfish! Using our growing phonics knowledge, we had a go at writing our own facts about different sea creatures. It was wonderful to see the children applying their sounds to segment and spell words independently.

âž– Maths
Our focus in maths was subtraction. We discovered that when we take away, our number gets smaller. The children enjoyed reading number sentences and using concrete resources (like toy dinosaurs!) to help them work out the answers. It was great to see the children physically taking objects away and counting what was left.

🌊 Understanding the World (UTW)
We continued our topic on the sea, learning even more about the amazing animals that live beneath the waves. The children enjoyed asking questions, sharing what they already knew, and building on their knowledge with new facts. Our classroom is quickly becoming a mini ocean full of curious learners!

Well done, Reception – another fantastic week of learning and discovery!
