This Week In Year 1 (WB 05.10.26)
Date: 6th Oct 2026 @ 9:22pm
We have had another busy and exciting week in Year 1! π The children have worked incredibly hard and enjoyed lots of practical learning activities.
π English
This week, we have been reading The Lonely Beast. The children have been creating story maps to help them remember the key events in the story and have been learning how to use time adverbials such as first, next, then, after that and finally.
The children worked in groups to order pictures from the story, match them to the correct time adverbials and retell the story orally. We were impressed with their growing confidence in retelling events in the correct sequence. π£οΈπ
π’ Maths
In Maths, we have been practising both addition and subtraction. The children enjoyed playing a maths game that involved adding and taking away amounts, helping them to develop their number fluency and problem-solving skills. ββ
πΊοΈ Topic
In Topic, we have continued learning about our local area and developing our map skills. This week, the children created their own maps and learned how to use a key to represent different features and landmarks. πΊοΈπ
π§ Science
In Science, we investigated how we are all unique. The children discussed similarities and differences between themselves and their classmates, celebrating what makes each of us special. π
β€οΈ RE
In RE, we explored what we might find inside a church and discussed why these objects and areas are important to Christians. βͺβ¨
π« PSHE
In PSHE, we have been learning about lending and borrowing. We discussed how, when we borrow something, it is important to return it to its owner. As part of this learning, we visited the school library π, talked about borrowing books and enjoyed a story and snack together. π
π Black History Month
This week, we were also very lucky to take part in an African Dance Workshop as part of our Black History Month celebrations. ππΆ The children thoroughly enjoyed learning new dance moves and were very excited to perform for their families. We were so proud of their enthusiasm, confidence and energy!
π’ Notices
π PE Days: Class 3 and Class 4 have PE on Wednesday and Thursday. Please ensure your child comes to school wearing their PE kit.
π Homework: Please read with your child at home and remember to write in their reading record.
β Regular reading practice is extremely important as it helps children develop their phonics skills, including sounding out words and blending sounds confidently.
Thank you for your continued support. We hope you have a lovely week!
