🌟 Year 1 Weekly Blog 🌟
What a fantastic and exciting week we have had in Year 1! It has been a very busy week packed full of learning, creativity and sporting achievements. We are incredibly proud of all the children and everything they have accomplished.
📚 English
In English, we have been exploring Samuel Pepys' diary and learning about his experiences during the Great Fire of London. The children used drama and role play to imagine what people living in London at the time might have seen, heard and felt as the fire spread through the city.
This helped us develop our speaking and listening skills while also building empathy and understanding of historical events. The children showed excellent imagination and some wonderful acting skills!
🔢 Maths
This week in Maths, we have been learning to identify, name and sort 3D shapes. The children have explored the properties of different shapes and have been talking about:
- Faces
- Edges
- Vertices (corners)
They enjoyed sorting shapes into groups and explaining their thinking using mathematical vocabulary.
⚽ Curriculum Week – The World Cup
This week has also been our exciting Curriculum Week, where we have been learning all about the World Cup!
Each class was given a country to represent:
- Class 3 – Norway 🇳🇴
- Class 4 – Belgium 🇧🇪
Throughout the week, the children have:
- Researched famous football players and created fact files
- Designed and made collages of their country's flag
- Designed their own football kits
- Created football pitches complete with players and accessories
The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning about different countries, football and teamwork while showing lots of creativity.
🏃 Sports Day
We also took part in our Sports Day this week. The children showed fantastic determination, resilience and teamwork throughout all the events.
A huge thank you to everyone who came along to cheer on and support our little superstars. It was wonderful to see so many families there encouraging the children, and they all did themselves proud.
⭐ Class Assembly
We would also like to say a massive well done to all the children for their amazing Class 3 and 4 Assembly this week. They confidently shared their learning and demonstrated just how much they have accomplished this term.
We were incredibly proud of how brave, confident and enthusiastic they were in front of such a large audience. They truly shone!
🏡 Homework
This week's homework is to:
- Continue reading regularly at home
- Write in reading records when you have read together
Regular reading makes such a difference to children's progress, so thank you for your continued support.
We hope you all have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing everyone on Monday for another exciting week of learning!
