๐ŸŒŸ Year 1 Weekly Blog ๐ŸŒŸ

What a fantastic and busy week we have had in Year 1! The children have worked incredibly hard and should be very proud of everything they have achieved. โญ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿ“– English

This week in English, we have continued exploring the exciting story Vlad and the Great Fire of London. ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ
We have also been starting to think about graphic novels—what they look like and how stories can be told through pictures and words.

The children loved beginning their own graphic novels, drawing detailed pictures and adding:

  • ๐Ÿ’ฌ Speech bubbles
  • โœ๏ธ Captions

We were so impressed with their creativity and storytelling skills—watch this space for some budding authors and illustrators! ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ“š

๐Ÿ”ข Maths

In maths, we have been learning about multiplication by grouping. โž•โž•
The children have been working hard to group objects and understand how repeated addition links to multiplication.

Great effort from everyone as they start to build these important maths foundations! ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿ”ฌ Science

In science, we have been learning about materials. ๐Ÿงฑ๐Ÿชต๐Ÿงด
The children have been able to:

  • Identify different materials
  • Describe their properties (e.g. hard, soft, shiny, rough)

We then had lots of fun going on a materials hunt around the classroom, searching for objects made from different materials. ๐Ÿ”
The children were very enthusiastic and observant—fantastic scientific thinking! ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ”ฌ

๐Ÿฐ History

In history, we have continued learning about the Great Fire of London. ๐Ÿ”ฅ
The children are really enjoying this topic and have:

  • Researched interesting facts
  • Started creating a timeline of events

It’s wonderful to see their curiosity and excitement for learning about the past! ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ

Phonics Screening Checks

It has been such a busy week and the children have tried incredibly hard with their Phonics Screening Checks. They should be very proud of all their effort and achievements.

๐ŸŒˆ Well done Year 1—you are amazing! ๐ŸŒˆ
