Year 1 Weekly Update
Welcome back! It has been wonderful to see how quickly the children have settled back into their routines and what a fantastic first week we have had.
In English, we have been exploring the story Meerkat Mail. The children have really enjoyed learning about Sunny’s adventures and have been working hard to use adjectives in their sentences to describe him. We have been focusing on making our writing more interesting by choosing exciting describing words.
In Maths, we have been learning about the greater than (>), less than (<), and equal to (=) symbols. The children have been practising how to compare numbers and explain which numbers are greater or less than others.
In Science, we have started our new topic on plants. We explored the school grounds and went on a plant hunt to see what we could find. The children loved taking photographs and observing different plants in our environment.
In Geography, we have begun our exciting new topic, A is for Africa. We listened to African-inspired music to help set the scene and spark curiosity. We have also been learning about the continents of the world and discovered that Africa is the second largest continent.
In PE, we have been focusing on team games and learning the importance of following rules, taking turns, and working together.
Homework Reminder:
Children should continue reading at home regularly to support their phonics development, as well as completing activities on Purple Mash.
PE Days:
- Class 3: Tuesday and Friday
- Class 4: Monday and Friday
