🌟 Year 1 Weekly Blog 🌟

What a wonderful week we have had in Year 1! The children have worked so hard across all areas of their learning and we are incredibly proud of them. 👏😊

📖 English

This week we have continued exploring the exciting story Vlad and the Great Fire of London. 🔥🏠

The children have been busy creating their own graphic novels, using:

  • ✏️ Captions
  • 💬 Speech bubbles

They have shown fantastic creativity and enthusiasm, bringing their stories to life through both pictures and words. We have loved seeing their imaginative ideas! 🎨📚

🔢 Maths

In maths, we have been learning about division and sharing. ➗

The children have been practising how to:

  • Share objects equally
  • Understand how division works through practical activities

They have shown great perseverance—well done Year 1! 💪

🔬 Science

In science, we have been exploring everyday materials and their properties. 🧱🪵

The children have been learning to:

  • Identify different materials
  • Describe their properties (such as hard, soft, rough and smooth)

They have been very curious and engaged in their learning—future scientists in the making! 👩‍🔬👨‍🔬

🏰 History

This week in history, we have been learning about how fire services have changed from 1666 to the present day. 🚒

We explored the differences between:

  • How fires were dealt with in the past
  • Modern firefighting methods

The children did a fantastic job identifying how things have changed over time—great historical thinking! 🕰️

⚽ PE

In PE, we have been practising throwing with accuracy. 🎯

We are preparing to use tennis rackets to move a ball in a controlled way, and the children have been developing their coordination and control skills brilliantly. 🏸

🏠 Homework

  • 📚 Please continue reading at home regularly to help solidify phonics learning
  • 💻 Keep practising learning at home to build confidence and fluency

Thank you for your continued support! 😊

⚽ PE Days

  • Class 3: Tuesday & Thursday
  • Class 4: Monday & Thursday

Please make sure children come to school in the correct PE kit on these days. 👟
