This Week in Year 1: A Fun-filled Week of Learning! π
What a fantastic week we’ve had in Year 1! We’ve been busy exploring new topics, practising our skills, and getting creative. Here’s a quick look at what we’ve been up to:
π English:
In English this week, we continued our exciting journey through the book You Choose. We focused on adjectives—those special words that help us describe things! The children worked on using adjectives to describe nouns, such as “the long snake” or “the stripey tiger.” It was so much fun coming up with all sorts of creative ways to describe different objects. The children were really getting the hang of using adjectives in their sentences.
β Maths:
In maths, we have been practising counting forwards and backwards from any number within 10. The children also worked on understanding one more and one less. This is an important skill that will help us with all sorts of number work as we continue to learn more. We had some great fun playing number games and challenging each other to count in different ways!
πΊοΈ Topic:
In our Topic lessons, we explored our local area using Google Maps. The children had a great time drawing maps of their local surroundings and included landmarks such as the local mosque, school, shops, parks, and houses. It was amazing to see how well they could map out their own community, showing just how much they know about the places around them.
π§ Science:
In Science, we’ve been learning all about the human body. The children were very excited to label different parts of their bodies, like the head, eyes, shoulders, chest, belly, arms, and legs!
π§π€π§ PHSE:
In our PHSE lesson, we’ve been talking about safe adults—those important people who look after us and help us feel safe. The children learned about who their safe adults are at school and at home, which helps them feel confident and protected.
π¨ Art:
Finally, in Art, we’ve been channeling our inner artists and creating portraits in the style of Andy Warhol. The children loved using bright, bold colours to create their own pop art-inspired masterpieces. There were some truly creative works of art on display!
What a week it’s been! We can’t wait to keep learning and exploring next week. Keep up the amazing work, Year 1! π
