This Week In Year 1 (WB 19.10.26)

Date: 20th Oct 2026 @ 1:37pm

What a wonderful week we have had in Year 1! 😊 The children have enjoyed lots of exciting learning experiences and have worked incredibly hard throughout our Curriculum Week.

📚 English

This week in English, we have been learning about the seasons. Together, we described what we can see, hear and feel during each season and used our ideas to create a class poem. 🍂❄️🌷☀️ The children enjoyed exploring seasonal vocabulary and sharing their ideas with the class.

🔢 Maths

In Maths, we have been learning to order the days of the week and the months of the year. We have also been sequencing events throughout the day and discussing what happens first, next and last. 📅⏰

🧍 Science

In Science, we have continued investigating how we are all unique. The children explored similarities and differences between themselves and their classmates and celebrated what makes each person special. 😊

❤️ RE

In RE, we have been learning about what we might find inside a mosque. The children enjoyed identifying and labelling different features and discussing why they are important to Muslims. 🕌✨

👫 PSHE

In PSHE, we have been focusing on sharing and caring for one another. We discussed ways we can show kindness, help our friends and work together positively. 💛🤝

🌍 Curriculum Week

This week has been Curriculum Week, where we have been learning all about jobs from the past, present and future. The children explored jobs from the past, including chimney sweeps, switchboard operators, nannies and cotton mill workers, and compared them to jobs we see today. We also enjoyed imagining what jobs might look like in the future! 🚒👩‍⚕️👨‍🔧🚀

As part of our learning, we had lots of seasonal fun exploring the inside of a pumpkin 🎃 and making bubbling cauldrons. 🧙‍♀️🫧

📢 Notices

🏃 PE Days: PE will continue to take place on Wednesday and Thursday for both classes.

🎒 Holiday Homework: The children have been given a small homework pack to complete over the holidays.

📖 There will be no reading book this week, but the children will bring home a book for pleasure to enjoy reading with their family. Sharing stories together is a wonderful way to encourage a love of reading. ❤️

Thank you for your continued support this half term. We are so proud of everything the children have achieved and wish you all a happy, safe and restful holiday! 🌈✨
