This Week In Year 1 (WB 21.09.26)

We have had another busy and exciting week in Year 1! 😊 The children have worked hard across all areas of the curriculum and have enjoyed lots of practical learning activities.

📚 English

This week, we have been reading Martha Maps It Out. We explored the different maps Martha creates, from the universe 🌎 to her city 🏙️, street 🏡 and house. The children worked in small groups to play a memory game based on Martha's bedroom. They had to say, "I can see..." and name an object, before the next child repeated what had already been said and added something new. This helped develop their speaking, listening and memory skills. 👂💬

🔢 Maths

In Maths, we have been learning about the part-part-whole model. The children identified the whole number and its parts before writing number sentences to match. We have been building our understanding of how numbers can be split into different parts. ✅

🗺️ Topic

In Topic, we have continued learning about our local area. This week, we looked at aerial maps and practised identifying and labelling places and landmarks that we recognise. We enjoyed spotting familiar features from our community. 🏘️📍

🧍 Science

In Science, we have been learning about our five senses. The children explored which body parts are linked to each sense and discussed how our senses help us understand the world around us. 👀👂👃👅✋

❤️ RE

In RE, we have been learning about sacred places and discussing why they are special to people of different faiths. We explored how these places help people feel connected to their beliefs and communities. ⛪🕌✨

👫 PSHE

In PSHE, we have been learning about people who help us. We also discussed our five safe people and thought about who we can talk to if we need help or support. 💖
