🌟 Year 1 Weekly Blog 🌟

We have had another fantastic and busy week in Year 1, with lots of exciting learning across the curriculum!

📚 English

This week in English, we have been reading the story “No Dragons for Tea”. The story sparked some brilliant discussions about fire safety and how to stay safe in the event of a fire.

The children shared thoughtful ideas and worked hard to create mind maps showing important fire safety rules, such as:

  • Phone 999
  • Leave you things behind
  • Do not hide

We were so impressed with their understanding and contributions during discussions!

🔢 Maths

In Maths, we have been learning all about money. The children explored different coins and practised making amounts using a variety of coins.

We worked in groups with practical activities, where the children:

  • Identified the cost of different objects
  • Thought carefully about which coins they could use to make that amount

They showed great teamwork and problem-solving skills!

🔬 Science

In Science, we have continued our topic on materials and their properties. The children have been learning to:

  • Identify what everyday objects are made from
  • Describe simple properties of materials

We enjoyed exploring and discussing the materials we see in our daily lives.

🏛️ History

In History, we have been learning about The Great Fire of London. This week, we focused on comparing London in 1666 to London today.

The children noticed lots of differences, such as:

  • Materials used for buildings
  • The layout of the streets
  • How people lived

They asked some fantastic questions and made great observations.

⚽ PE

In PE, we have been practising our skills in controlling a ball with a bat. The children worked hard on:

  • Coordination
  • Control
  • Accuracy

They showed great determination and enthusiasm!

PE Days Reminder:

  • Class 3: Tuesday and Thursday
  • Class 4: Monday and Thursday

We have also enjoyed lots of water play this week and have been focusing on keeping calm and comfortable during the heatwave. Thank you for sending children in prepared for the warmer weather.
