This Week In Year 1 (WB 24.11.25)

Date: 27th Nov 2025 @ 11:20am

What an amazing week we’ve had in Year 1! We are starting this week’s blog with a HUGE celebration of our class assembly ðŸŽĪâœĻ. Every single child performed brilliantly – they spoke clearly, sang beautifully and showed such confidence. We are incredibly proud of them and hope you enjoyed watching their fantastic performance. Well done, Year 1! 🌟👏

Phonics ðŸ”Ī

In phonics, we learned four new spelling patterns: e-e (ee), ew (oo/yoo), ie (ee) and aw (or). The children explored these sounds through reading and writng sentence using thier new sounds. They are becoming brilliant phonics detectives! 🔎📚

English ✍ïļ

This week in English, we continued our work with the story The Somethingosaur. The children practised retelling the story using time adverbials such as first, next, after that and finally. We were so impressed with how confidently they sequenced the events and used expressive language to bring the story to life. ðŸĶ•📖

Maths 💰

In maths, our focus has been money. The children have been learning to recognise coins and order them from the lowest to the greatest value. Sorting trays and real coins helped them develop their confidence in a practical and fun way. 🛒💷

Science ðŸŒĶïļ

In science, we explored the four seasons and the changes we can see and feel throughout the year. The children talked about weather, clothing and how nature changes. They enjoyed sorting seasonal pictures and using objects in our continuous provision to match each season. 🍁🌞❄ïļðŸŒž

History ðŸĶī

In history, the children learned about Mary Anning, a famous fossil hunter. They were fascinated by her discoveries and her important role in helping scientists learn about the past. Our fossil-digging activities were a big hit! ðŸŠĻ🔍

PE 🕚

This term in PE, we have been practising our season dance, and the children loved performing it for you. They moved confidently and expressed each season beautifully through dance. We are so proud of their hard work and enthusiasm! 💃🍂
