This Week In Year 1 (WB 28.09.26)

We have had another fantastic week of learning in Year 1! The children have worked hard and enjoyed lots of exciting activities across the curriculum. 😊

📚 English

This week, we have been reading Martha Maps It Out and exploring the different maps that Martha draws, from the universe 🌎 to her city, street and house 🏡.

The children wrote simple sentences about Martha's room using the phrase "I can see...". Some children challenged themselves by using the conjunction "and" to add extra information to their sentences. ✏️📖

🔢 Maths

In Maths, we have been learning to subtract within 10. The children used beads to help them solve subtraction number sentences and worked hard to find the correct answers. They are becoming more confident in using practical resources to support their learning. ➖🔵

🗺️ Topic

In Topic, we have continued learning about our local area. This week, we went on a walk around school and discussed what we like about our school environment and how we could make it even better. 🏫🌳 The children shared some thoughtful ideas and observations.

🧍 Science

In Science, we have been learning about our senses and identifying which body parts are linked to each sense. We discussed how our senses help us learn about the world around us. 👀👂👃👅✋

❤️ RE

In RE, we explored how a church can create a sense of belonging for Christians. We discussed why churches are important places for worship, community and celebration. ⛪✨

👫 PSHE

In PSHE, we have been learning about the importance of taking turns. We discussed how turn-taking helps us to play fairly, listen to others and build positive relationships. 🤝💛

💻 Computing

In Computing, the children continued developing their basic iPad skills and practised scanning QR codes to access phonics games and learning activities independently. 📱🔍

📢 Notices

🏃 PE Days: Class 3 and Class 4 have PE on Wednesday and Thursday. Please ensure children come to school in their PE kit.

📖 Homework: Please read with your child at home and remember to write in their reading record.

⭐ Regular reading practice is extremely important as it helps children develop their phonics skills, particularly sounding out words and blending sounds together confidently.
