This Week In Year 1 (WB 29.06.26)

🌟 Year 1 Weekly Blog 🌟

We have had another wonderful week in Year 1, with lots of engaging and hands-on learning across all areas of the curriculum!

📚 English

In English this week, we have been exploring the story “No Dragons for Tea”. This led to some fantastic discussions about fire safety and what we should do in an emergency.

The children showed great understanding and enthusiasm as they created their own fire safety posters, sharing important messages such as staying calm, getting out safely, and telling an adult. Their creativity and thoughtful ideas were brilliant to see!

🔢 Maths

In Maths, we have been learning about capacity. The children had lots of fun working in the water area in small groups, using practical equipment to explore:

• Full and empty
• Half full
• Nearly full and nearly empty

They used mathematical language confidently and enjoyed experimenting while learning!

🔬 Science

In Science, we have been investigating different materials and their properties. The children explored everyday objects and discussed what they are made from.

They did a great job recognising materials and thinking about their uses, showing curiosity and excellent observational skills.

🏛️ History

In History, we have continued learning about The Great Fire of London. This week, we focused on:

• The differences between London in 1666 and London today
• Asking questions about the past

The children showed great curiosity and came up with thoughtful questions about how people lived and how things have changed over time.

⚽ PE

In PE, we have been developing our skills in controlling a ball with a bat and have started practising how to bounce a ball using the bat.

The children are improving their coordination and control, and it has been lovely to see their confidence grow.
