This week in Year 6 - WB 09.03.26

Date: 11th Mar 2026 @ 11:50am

This week in Year 6, the children have been exploring Shaun Tan’s The Red Tree, a beautifully imaginative book that has inspired them to think deeply about emotions and how authors use figurative language. They have been experimenting with similes, metaphors, personification and vivid imagery to bring mood and meaning into their own narrative writing, taking inspiration from the powerful illustrations and symbolism in the story.

In PE, the class has been developing their handball skills, focusing particularly on passing accurately and finding effective ways to score. The children have shown great teamwork, energy and enthusiasm as they practised moving into space, supporting one another and improving their shooting techniques.

In Maths, we have been applying a range of methods and strategies to arithmetic and reasoning assessment tasks. The children have worked with real determination, using what they have learned across the term to solve problems, explain their thinking and build confidence.
