This week in Year 6 ...WB 18.05.26

Date: 21st May 2026 @ 11:08am

This week in Year 6, we have been developing our creative writing skills by exploring mysterious pictures from The Mysteries of Harris Burdick. Each of us selected an intriguing illustration and used it as inspiration to write our own imaginative back story. We carefully looked at the details in the image, asking questions such as who the characters might be, what had happened before the moment we could see, and what secrets the picture might hold. Using rich vocabulary, descriptive language and a clear structure, we created gripping introductions and built tension to engage our readers. It has been fantastic to see such a wide range of creative ideas, with some stories including unexpected twists and others focusing on building suspense.

In maths, we have been sharpening our problem-solving skills by working with Roman numerals and reading timetables. Children have practised converting between Roman numerals and our usual number system, applying this knowledge to solve a variety of challenges. We have also explored real-life contexts by interpreting timetables, calculating journey times and working out schedules. These activities have helped us to think carefully, apply our reasoning skills and explain our answers clearly.
