This week in Year 6 …WB 26.01.26
Date: 5th Feb 2026 @ 2:50pm
This week in Year 6, we’ve been working hard to prepare ourselves for the SATs in May while also developing our creativity and empathy through an inspiring story.
We completed practice SATs papers to help us understand what the real tests will be like. These practice papers helped us build confidence, manage our time, and identify areas where we need to improve. We learned how important it is to read questions carefully, stay focused, and use strategies we’ve been practising all year. Although some parts were challenging, we know that practising now will help us feel calmer and more prepared in May.
Alongside this, we explored the powerful story The Journey. The story made us think deeply about the experiences of people who are forced to leave their homes and face difficult choices. We discussed the emotions of the characters and the challenges they encountered along the way, which helped us understand the story on a deeper level.
Inspired by The Journey, we wrote a persuasive speech in role, trying to convince a guard to let us cross the border. We focused on using emotive language, strong arguments, and persuasive techniques such as rhetorical questions and repetition. We also thought carefully about tone, aiming to sound hopeful, desperate, and determined. This task really challenged us to put ourselves in someone else’s shoes.
This week showed us that learning isn’t just about tests – it’s also about understanding the world around us. We are proud of the effort we’re putting into our SATs preparation and the maturity we showed in our writing. Year 6 is busy, but we’re ready for the challenge! 🌟
