This week in Year 6...13.09.2026

Date: 16th Sep 2026 @ 12:56pm

This week in Year 6, we became artists and historians as we created our own World War II Blitz artwork.

First, we learned about how World War II began and discussed why cities in Britain were targeted during the Blitz. We talked about the difficult conditions people faced, including air raids, damaged homes, blackouts and having to take shelter from bombings. This helped us understand what life was like for families living in cities during the war.

To create our artwork, we used chalk to make dramatic Blitz backgrounds. The chalk allowed us to create powerful effects that reflected the destruction and atmosphere of the Blitz.

We really enjoyed combining our historical knowledge with our artistic skills. Our finished pieces showed both the impact of the Blitz on Britain's cities and the resilience of the people who lived through it. We are very proud of our artwork and of how much we have learned about this important period in history.
