This week in Year 6…WB 02.02.26

Date: 5th Feb 2026 @ 2:55pm

This week in Year 6, we have been busy learning across the curriculum and thinking deeply about both skills and feelings.

In maths, we have been learning all about time. We practised reading and using the 24-hour clock, calculating the duration of events, and interpreting timetables. We learned how important it is to work step by step, especially when calculating how long something lasts or converting between 12-hour and 24-hour time. These skills helped us solve real-life problems and become more confident with time-related questions.

In English, we have been enjoying the powerful and thought-provoking book The Island by Armin Greder. The story sparked lots of discussion and helped us think about mood, atmosphere, and character viewpoints. We explored the text in detail, planned our ideas, carefully chose ambitious vocabulary, and began writing the opening of our own first-person narrative. We focused on creating tension and emotion to hook the reader from the very first line.

In topic, our learning has linked closely with our English work as we have been learning about refugees. We considered what it might be like to leave your home suddenly and how that would feel emotionally. We also thought about what belongings we would choose to take with us and why, helping us understand how difficult these choices would be.

This week’s learning helped us develop not only our academic skills, but also our empathy and understanding of the world. Year 6 continues to challenge us, but we are rising to it with maturity and thoughtfulness. 🌍📘⏰
