A Fantastic First Full Week in Year 6!

What a brilliant start to our Year 6 journey! The children have settled wonderfully into their first full week and have already shown enthusiasm, resilience and a fantastic attitude towards their learning.

This week, we began exploring our new class text, Goodnight Mr Tom. The story has sparked lots of thoughtful discussions about life during World War II and helped us to imagine what it might have been like to live through such challenging times.

Using the book as inspiration, we focused on developing our descriptive writing skills. We explored ambitious vocabulary and used our senses to help create vivid setting descriptions. The children thought carefully about what they might have seen, heard, smelt, felt and touched in the busy streets of wartime London.

Drawing on sensory language, the class wrote some impressive setting descriptions that brought World War II London to life. From the deafening wail of air-raid sirens to the smoky smell lingering in the air, the children worked hard to paint powerful pictures for their readers.

In Maths, we have been consolidating our understanding of place value. The children have been building confidence when reading, writing, ordering and comparing numbers, as well as explaining their reasoning using mathematical vocabulary. It has been wonderful to see them applying their knowledge and tackling challenges with determination.

We are incredibly proud of how positively everyone has embraced the challenges of Year 6 so far. It has been lovely to see the class support one another, contribute confidently in lessons and demonstrate a real eagerness to learn.

Well done, Year 6. We are looking forward to another exciting week ahead!
