This week in Year 6....WB 09.02.26
Date: 11th Feb 2026 @ 11:25am
It has been another busy and productive time in Year 6!
In English, we have continued developing our first-person narratives inspired by The Island. The children have been working hard to capture the thoughts and feelings of their characters, using powerful vocabulary and descriptive techniques to build atmosphere and tension. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they refine their writing and focus on crafting engaging openings and thoughtful reflections.
In Maths, we have been focusing on area and perimeter. The children have been applying their knowledge to solve problems involving rectangles and compound shapes, ensuring they can confidently distinguish between calculating the area and the perimeter. Alongside this, we have also been revisiting and strengthening our understanding of converting measurements, including length and area, and applying these skills in a range of reasoning and problem-solving contexts.
In DT, the children are thoroughly enjoying making sweet empanadas as part of our food technology unit. They carefully followed recipes, practised key preparation skills, and demonstrated excellent teamwork in the kitchen. The results were delicious, and it was fantastic to see the pride they took in creating their finished products.
Well done, Year 6, for your continued hard work and positive attitude to learning!
