This week in Year 6….WB 12.01.26
Date: 5th Feb 2026 @ 2:21pm
Last week, Year 6 took learning beyond the classroom walls and headed to Robinwood Residential at Dobroyd Castle – and what an unforgettable experience it was! From the moment we arrived, it was clear this trip would challenge us, inspire us, and help us grow in ways no worksheet ever could.
Throughout the week, we took part in a huge range of adventurous activities designed to test our teamwork, resilience, and problem-solving skills. Whether we were climbing high ropes, navigating the piranha pool, or tackling the dreaded dungeon, we had to communicate clearly, listen to each other, and work together to succeed. Trust was a big part of our learning – trusting our instructors, trusting our friends, and most importantly, trusting ourselves.
One of the biggest lessons we learned was about stepping outside our comfort zones. Many of us faced fears such as heights, dark spaces, or cold water, but with encouragement from our classmates and the Robinwood leaders, we found the courage to give things a go. Even when activities felt tricky, we learned that perseverance and a positive mindset make a huge difference.
The residential also helped us develop our independence. We were responsible for organising our rooms, managing our time, and looking after our belongings. These may sound like small things, but they helped prepare us for secondary school and beyond. We also learned how important it is to support others and celebrate everyone’s achievements, big or small.
Of course, learning wasn’t just about the activities. Evenings were filled with laughter, reflection, and team games that strengthened friendships and created memories we’ll never forget. By the end of the week, we returned tired but proud, with muddy shoes, huge smiles, and a stronger sense of what we can achieve when we work together.
Robinwood at Dobroyd Castle wasn’t just a trip – it was a life lesson. 💚
