W/c 15.06.26 This week in Year2!
Date: 19th Jun 2026 @ 8:01am

We’ve had a fantastic week in Year 2, both in school and on our exciting trip!
In English, we have been busy writing about our visit to the library. We have focused on using the past tense, time conjunctions (such as first, then, next, finally), and adjectives to describe our day in detail. The children worked really hard to make their writing interesting and engaging—we are very proud of them!
In Maths, we have been learning about division and how it links to skip counting. The children have been practising solving problems by grouping and counting in steps, which has really helped them to understand division in a fun and practical way.
In Topic, we explored the work of the artist L.S. Lowry. Inspired by his style, we created our own seaside drawings from the past, including bathing huts, puppets, and donkeys. The artwork looks fantastic and really captures the feeling of seaside life long ago.
Our trip to Northern Roots was incredible! We had a wonderful day packed with activities. In the morning, we planted sunflower seeds and beans (we hope you are looking after them at home!), helped to create a community garden, and planted garlic and kale. We also explored the polytunnels and went on a minibeast hunt, where we discovered lots of interesting creatures. We loved being mini-rangers.
After a lovely picnic lunch, we spent time doing observational drawings of plants, carefully looking at shapes and details. Everyone had a brilliant time, and the team at Northern Roots are looking forward to doing it all again with Class 6 next week!
Well done, Year 2—what a busy and exciting week! 👏🌼
