Year 1 Weekly Blog

What a wonderful week we’ve had in Year 1! The children have been busy, enthusiastic, and full of curiosity as we explored lots of exciting learning across the curriculum.

In Maths, we have been learning how to multiply by 10. The children have practised counting in even steps of 10 and are becoming increasingly confident. Please feel free to test them on their 10 times table at home—they love showing off their new skills!

In English, we have been writing our own versions of The Kiss That Missed. The children created imaginative characters and drew fantastic story maps to help bring their tales to life. We have been very impressed with their creativity and storytelling voices.

In PSHE, our focus has been on emotions and how to be good listeners. The children discussed how different feelings can look and feel, and they practised listening carefully to one another—an important skill that they are developing beautifully.

In PE, we have been learning our dinosaur dance. The children have enjoyed moving to the rhythm and expressing themselves through big, bold actions!
We have also been busy learning our castle song in Music, complete with actions. The children have been practising with great enthusiasm and can’t wait to share it with you soon.

During our Topic lessons, we have explored the different parts of a castle and thought about how people defended their castles from attack. In provision, the children built their own castles and then defended them from dragons and invading enemies—lots of imaginative fun!

In Science, we have been learning about carnivores and what they eat. The children were fascinated to discover that some frogs even eat mice!

Finally, we had an amazing time celebrating World Book Day. The children’s outfits were absolutely incredible, and we are so grateful for the effort and creativity that went into them. Our box competitions completely blew us away—thank you so much for your support.
