🌟 Year 1 Weekly Blog – A Fiery Start to Our Learning! 🔥

What an exciting week it’s been in Year 1!

This week, we had a very special visitor join us to launch our WOW starter for our new topic: The Great Fire of London! The children were thrilled to step into the past as we climbed aboard our very own Time Machine and travelled all the way back to the year 1666. 🕰️

Once we arrived, the hall transformed into the bustling streets of old London. The children became townspeople and bravely recreated key scenes from the fire. We saw tiny bakers' shops, wooden houses, and brave efforts to stop the spreading flames – all brought to life through role play and storytelling. It was truly an immersive learning experience!

In English, we continued our learning about Vlad and the Great Fire of London. The children impressed us with their creativity, writing a page from a graphic novel showing Vlad’s adventures during the fire. They also worked hard to produce fact files about what London was like in 1666 – did you know the buildings were made of wood and built very close together?

In Maths, we’ve been busy exploring multiplication using groups and arrays. The children have been using objects and pictures to help them understand how to count in 2s, 5s and 10s. They’ve loved the challenge and are getting really confident with their grouping skills!

In Science, we’ve been looking closely at everyday objects and thinking about the materials they are made from. 

It’s been a brilliant start to our new topic and we can’t wait to see where our learning takes us next week. 🚀
