Year 1 Weekly Learning Update

This week in Year 1, we’ve had a fun-filled week packed with learning and new experiences!

In Maths, we’ve been learning all about money – recognising and ordering different coins and understanding their values.

In English, we read the story "No Dragons for Tea", which helped us learn all about fire safety. We linked this to our History learning, where we explored the important work of firefighters, comparing fire engines from the past and present, and learning how these everyday heroes help keep us safe.

As part of our PSHE learning, we’ve been thinking about our families – who is in them, and how they help keep us safe and cared for.

In RE, we’ve been learning about special texts and sacred texts, discovering how different religions have books that are important to them, and sharing our own favourite books too.

In Science, we’ve been exploring and describing the properties of a variety of materials – thinking about how things feel, look, and behave, and why certain materials are used for different purposes.

In Music, we learned an exciting song about a shark called Mark and we tapped out different rhythms. We’ve also been singing a fun firefighter song and a lively song about London Town.

We’ve also had lots of active fun this week! We enjoyed Gary's football session on Thursday, and in PE, we’ve been developing our skills in tennis.

A big achievement this week – we have learned to sign the entire alphabet in sign language! Well done, Year 1! What a brilliant week of learning – great job, everyone!
