Year 6 - Safer Internet Day

Date: 11th Feb 2022 @ 10:38am

This week we looked at many ways on how we can always be safe on the internet.

Pupils recognised that although the internet is a fantastic resource, it also has some dangers. And remaining safe online is of great importance.

We started our session by discussing different games we played online and how we can remain both safe and respectful. Whilst reminding children to only play with friends and family who they know and trust, and to make parents/guardians aware of who they are playing with. It was a great opportunity for all of Year 6 pupils to engage in deep meaningful conversations about internet safety.

We also learnt how to be respectful to others online and to recognise what is healthy behaviour and unhealthy behaviour when playing online. We then presented our findings in our iPad, focusing on the kind of advice we would give to a individuals who are new to online gaming.

Learning in Class 8 11.2.22

Date: 11th Feb 2022 @ 10:22am

This week was Internet Safety week. Class 8 looked at how we behave online when playing games. They worked in cooperative groups and discussed games they played, why they enjoyed them and what experiences they had had when playing. We talked about treating people respectfully like you are talking to them face to face and then about what information do we need to keep safe. The children were very knowledgable about not sharing personal information and passwords and more importantly if they are ever unsure about anything to speak to a trusted adult. These are some of the leaflets Class 8 produced. Well done Class 8 you know the rules on Internet Safety!

Safer Internet Day in Y5

Date: 11th Feb 2022 @ 5:57am

This week, it was ‘Safer Internet Day’ and in Year 5 we have been exploring the different experiences we have had with online gaming.

We shared the range of online games we have been playing at home and the children were reminded of being mindful of only choosing games that are age appropriate.

We also discussed who we actually played with and once again were reminded the children to only play with friends and family who they know and trust, and that they have made parents aware of who they are playing with. Playing with and sharing information with people they don’t know is unsafe.

We then went onto looking at games that required team players. These games are great for building skills such as teamwork, co-operation and problem solving. However, there may be times when certain team members become too competitive, their behaviour becomes negative and their only aim is to win. We discussed how sometimes we are put under a lot of pressure by other team players to win. Other players may also use negative comments to make us feel bad or even ashamed and embarrassed if we lose.

We learnt how to be respectful to others online and to recognise healthy and unhealthy online behaviours. We also used our iPad to record ideas for the kind of advice we would give to a player under pressure and the people who put pressure on others.

In Class 3 this week...

Date: 10th Feb 2022 @ 9:24pm

This week Class 3 have had such a fantastic week, taking part in lots of different activities...

At the beginning of the week the children got to use their super drama skills to act out the different parts of their African workshop to support them with their re-count this week. The children created different freeze frames to demonstrate the activities we took part in last week.

Reception Weekly Blog WB 7/2/2022

Date: 10th Feb 2022 @ 4:24pm

Reception have had a fantastic week to end our topic Around the World. We have flown on a magic carpet around the world learning what Granny bought in each country from the book My Granny Went to Market. We did some fantastic drama creating actions for each part of the journey and performing the book as a class. We have also written postcards from Grannie from some of the places around the world - all the children are now confidently applying their phonics when they are writing.

In Maths we have been doing some measuring, identiftying the tallest and shortest objects. We have also been learning to sequence the days of the week - perhaps this is something you could practise with your child at home?

In our topic learning we have looked at the work of Kandinsky and created some artwork of our own in his style. We have also been colour mixing to make new colours from the three primary colours red blue and yellow.

We are looking forward to our Metacognition Curriculum week next week!

This week Receptin have been doing some fantastic learning about Chinese New Year.

In English we have enjoyed the story of The Runaway Wok, learning about a traditional story about the life of a poor family in Beijing. We have drawn our favourite parts of the story, written captions and enjoyed retelling the story using our own story maps. We learned about how Chinese people celebrate New Year - this year is the year of the tiger - and even made our own lanterns and a dragon to dance with.

In Maths we have been learning about 6,7, and 8 doing different activities to ensure that we can recognise each number in different ways and that our knowledge of each number is secure.

Next week we will be going on a journey all around the world to different markets to buy lots of interesting things!

Sounds of the river in Y5

Date: 3rd Feb 2022 @ 3:07pm

This week in Year 5, we have been learning about the different parts of the river. We have learnt that the upper, middle and lower course are very different. The water travels a lot faster in the upper course and is much slower in the lower course. The fast-moving water crashes against rocks and falls down waterfalls creating a great deal of sound.

Y5 have been using musical instruments to create a sound scape of the various parts of the river. It was very loud in the upper course and much quieter and calmer in the lower course by the sea. The sound scape was a pleasure to listen to. Well done Year 5.

Keeping fit in Year 5

Date: 27th Jan 2022 @ 2:43pm

This week in Year 5, the children have been getting creative in their PE lessons. We have had a great time working in small groups and using our imaginations to come up with a sequence of moves, postures and poses that were inspired by the theme music for ‘Mission Impossible’ We imagined that we were a team of experts on a mission to retrieve something that was taken from us. The teachers were very impressed at how agile some of the children were and their performances were a pleasure to watch.

As always, Y5 are also keen to kick a ball around. We have once again been developing and refining our football skills on the pitch with Gary. Keep it up Year 5!

Reception Weekly Blog- WB 24.01.22

Date: 27th Jan 2022 @ 10:23am

In Reception this week the children have continued their learning into different environments by looking at the non-fiction text 'Homes around the World'. The book has lots of different types of houses including igloos, yurts, river houses and houses on stilts. The children enjoyed using the book 'You Choose' to find their perfect house and then labelled it using their phonic knowledge.

During continuous provision the children enjoyed using the workshop area to make the different houses from the book. Some of the children found some sugar cubes and decided to use them to make igloos, they enjoyed balancing them on top of each other. In the classroom we transformed our role play areas into travel agents and the children enjoyed role playing going on a holiday. We had lots of discussions about the different climates and looked at what we would need to pack in our suitcases if we went to a warm country or a cold country.

Space learning - wk end - 30/1/22

Date: 24th Jan 2022 @ 1:38pm

The children in LB2 are having a fabulous time learning all about space.

They have watched rockets blasting off into space and have made lego versions of the launch pad structures that hold the rockets.

They have watched and talked about the satellites in space which allow the people on earth to look at our planet in great detail.

They watched the satellites completing an orbit around earth and looked at all the pictures generated.

The children have created their own work on the planets within our solar system as well as re-producing the galaxies in space.

The children are very excited to learn more about our special planet and look at ways of how we can protect it.
