This week in Reception we have done some fantastic learning about The Three Little Pigs. We created story maps and acted out the story using a Story Whoosh - we have some amazing actors and actresses in Reception.

In Maths we have been doing great learning about 4 and 5. Looking at different ways of showing them and sorting sets.

In the afternoons we have had a Science focus and we have been investigating friction, floating and sinking, melting and freezing and which materials are best for keeping out water. Lots of our predictions were right and we had great fun melting chocolate on our fingers (and licking it off!)

Next week we will be starting our Nativity rehearsals - we are VERY excited!

Paramedic learning

Date: 25th Nov 2021 @ 12:30pm

The children had a fantastic learning opportunity on Tuesday. They had a visit from a 'paramedic'.

Reception weekly Blog WB 15.11.2021

Date: 22nd Nov 2021 @ 11:36am

This week was very busy in Reception. Nibbles the book monster was spotted in school - he left a trail of footprints all over Class 1! We were very worried as he likes to eat books amongst other things like soap and smelly socks. We created Wanted Posters so that the other children in school could help us to catch him and finally on Friday afternoon the children who were playing outside made a trap to catch him and put him back in his book. Great job Reception!

In Maths we were finding circles and triangles inside and outdoors and creating obstacle courses to show off how fantasteic we are at positional language.

In the afternoon we had great fun challenging our senses in different ways - feeling slimey jelly in a feely box was a firm favourite! We also looked at the work of Artist Andy Goldsworthy and created some natural artwork of our own.

Class 7

Date: 17th Nov 2021 @ 5:10pm

This week in Class 7 we have been learning all about shadows and how they are formed. We tried to answer the question - Does the size of a shadow change depending on the distance from the light source?

We found that the closer the puppet was to the light source the bigger the shadow was and the further away the puppet was from the light source the smaller the shadow was.

Learning in Class 8

Date: 16th Nov 2021 @ 10:08pm

Class 8 have been investigating in Science which material would be best used for protecting your eyes from the sunlight. They said opaque objects would be best to block the sun but then you couldn't see, so they decided translucent materials would be best used because they would allow the light to pass through. What great scientists! Also this week the children have used Clips on their iPads to retell the story of The Stone Age Boy using puppets and then they added speech. They worked great in their teams.

This week class 3 have had an amazing first week back after their half term break. We have been so impressed with the learning they have produced this week.

In maths we have been re-capping our subtraction learning, using a range of different methods to help us, including dienes, number lines and pictorial representations.

In Science we have been learning all about the seasons and created some beautiful seasons wheels, drawing the different things that happen in each season.

At the beginning of the week we also had an extra special visitor... Florence Nightingale! The children were so excited to meet her and got the chance to ask her lots of interesting questions. This half term we will be learning even more about her, and we can't wait to find out more!

Click to see what Class 14 have been learning this week...

Date: 3rd Nov 2021 @ 10:27am

This week in Class 14 we have been extremely busy with our learning and shown this through our growing mindset that we are continuing to develop.

We have approached this week by introducing metacognition into our learning and adapted a new principle where we are ‘thinking about our thinking’ and combating a fixed mindset. With this in mind, in maths we developed our reasoning skills and worked with our partners to tackle some difficult multiplication problems. The children did find these difficult at first but overcame their struggles once they evaluated their learning and thought about their thinking with their partners. Well done Class 14!

In English, we are focusing on ‘The Diary of Anne Frank.’ The children are writing a persuasive letter, where they are persuading the Franks to go into a secret location – the annex, for their safety. The children have produced some fantastic letters and focused heavily on formal language, emotive language and persuasion.

Well done Class 14 for your hard work and growing mindset.

Kind regards,

Mrs Khalil
