This week Reception were very excited to welcome the chicks into our classes. They arrived on Monday and we put them straight into the incubator. We didnt have to wait long before the chicks started to peck their way out of their shells. Once one arrived the rest followed very quickly. When they had dried out we transferred them to the brooder and we are very excited for next week when they will be strong enough to hold.

To help us to understand the life cycle of the chicks we have been looking at a non-fiction book - Egg to Chick - in English. We have discussed how non fiction books are laid out and have found lots of facts inside them.

In Maths we have started 3 weeks of learning about First, Then and Now. We have been looking at stories that involve looking at a group of characters and adding on one, then more than one to find the total at the end.

In Maths we did some tricky learning with numbers up to 20. We used 10s frames and other representations to see what each numeral looked like in lots of different ways.

This week in class 2 we have been learning all about houses around the world. The children have really enjoyed using the book 'You Choose' to find their perfect house. Every child in the class has drawn their perfect house and then labelled it thinking about the sounds they can hear in the words they want to write.

In maths this week we have matching numbers and quantities. The children each had a gift bag with a different number in and they had to go around the room to collect that number of objects.

Throughout the week the children have noticed the leaves that have fallen onto the floor in our garden, we decided to pick them up and on Friday afternoon we completed lots of different learning activities with the leaves. We made leaf people, used crayons to make patterns with the leaves and even collaged pictures of our faces with the leaves. We had so much fun following our interests!

This week in class 2 we have been learning about the story ‘The Runaway Chapatti’. The children all recognised that it was very similar to one of our favourite traditional tales ‘The Gingerbread Man’. The children have all sequenced the story and retold the story in their own words to an adult. Why don’t you ask your child if they can retell it to you!

All of the children worked with Miss Seddon to make their own chapattis and we really enjoyed eating them. Zaynah said after eating it all up that we had all turned into the tiger because we had eaten all of the chapattis just like in the story!

In maths this week we have continued our learning into numbers and the children have each made their own number line to 10. I was very impressed with the children’s numeral recognition.

In our maths learning the children have been learning about the numbers 1,2 and 3. The children have enjoyed writing the numerals and have been listening to how many times Miss Bradshaw and Miss Seddon play the different instruments and showing that number on their number fans.
