Our Computing - PowerPoint

Date: 10th May 2021 @ 1:01pm

This week the children had the opportunity to work in the computer room to complete their learning on Microsoft PowerPoint. Each child created a title slide and an information slide all about the countryside. They picked and inserted a backgrounds, inserted pictures, typed and altered text including changing the font, size and colour and animated the slides ready for the final show on the big screen.

Below are some pictures and videos of the children hard at work and some of the slides they created.

Our Amazing Artwork

Date: 27th Apr 2021 @ 1:37pm

This week the children enjoyed a relaxing art afternoon. They looked at a variety of different landmarks from around the world and then created their own representations using chalk pastels. They created an outline using pencil and looked carefully at the features and positioning of each part before adding in the colour. See if you can guess which famous landmarks they have recreated below.

Half Term Projects

Date: 20th Apr 2021 @ 1:50pm

Over the Easter holidays the children were set two different projects one linked to last half terms topic on Inventors and Inventions and one linked to this half terms topic all about The Countryside.

Some children decided to look at the Inventors and Inventions project - they had to research an inventor and then create a model of something they had invented. They came back to school this week and presented their models to the class and explained what they had found out about this invention.

Some children decided to look at the Countryside project - they had to research what the countryside looks like and then create a scene in their own way to represent their findings. They shared their pictures/models with the peers and explained what the countryside looked like to them.

Below are some of the superb models and pictures the children created. A big thank you to the parents also for supporting their children with their home learning and engaging with these projects.

Wendel's Workshop - Our Own Retells

Date: 30th Mar 2021 @ 9:31pm

This week the children have enjoyed reading the story of Wendel's Workshop. They started the week by sequencing the events and creating a story mountain to record each part of the story. Next they explored the three main characters further through drama, they became Wendel, Wendelbot and Clunk and used facial expressions, body language and voices to bring the characters to life. Then they developed their own retell of the story and thought about the language they could used from the book, as well as their own vocabulary to enhance the events. Finally they edited the first draft themselves and wrote the final version using the improvements they had thought about.

Fruit Salad Project Completed!

Date: 24th Mar 2021 @ 9:35am

Following on from last week, the children have completed their Design Technology project - Fruit Salads. They used their research and designs from last week to turn the images into reality. The children worked in small groups to choose their fruits, chop and prepare them, share them out in to bowls and add their favourite juice! They enjoyed working with their friends and eating their yummy fruit salad in class. They completed the project by evaluating what had gone well and what they would improve or change next time.

Over the final couple of weeks the children have done a few fun festive activities. They watched the pantomime of Hansel and Gretel and dressed up as different panto characters, they made Christmas placemats and hats ready for their Christmas party day, they had a visit from Santa who brough them a gift each, they made Christmas cards to take home for their families and they loved coming to school in their fantatsic Christmas jumpers and playing party games with their friends!

Our Space Learning Journey

Date: 8th Dec 2020 @ 10:56pm

This half term the children in Class 5 have been learning all about SPACE. This week we brought all of our learning together to create our learning journey wall. We realised just how much learning we had done over just a few weeks. The children really enjoyed recalling facts about the Space Race with the different animals going into space, as well as the amount they could remember about the Moon Landing. The children have worked so hard on this topic in school but also at home when they made their fantastic space rockets and accessories.

Minibeast Houses

Date: 2nd Dec 2020 @ 12:37am

This half term the children have been learning all about habitats and in particular microhabitats. Last week they made their own bug boxes for the minibeasts in our playground. They worked in groups to collect a mixture of natural materials and other resources they thought would attract bugs. Then they set up the homes in shoesboxes. They used leaves, sticks, grass, rocks, straws, plastic bottles and fruit. The habitats were completed by the children drawing their own minibeasts and adding them to the shoeboxes. Finally they placed the boxes in our playground and now have the job of monitoring them each playtime to see if any real minibeasts move in.

Our Splendid Space Buggies

Date: 25th Nov 2020 @ 3:23pm

In Design Technology the children have made Space Buggies. They started by exploring and disassembling vehicles and labelling each part. Next they designed their own space buggy, wrote an equipment list and a method. Then they collected all their resources and began the construction process in pairs to bring their buggies to life. Finally they evaluated their work and thought about what had worked well and what they would improve next time.

We are so proud of ALL of the children and the fabulous work they have produced! Below are a few pictures of the process, our class display and our final products.

E-Safety in Year 2

Date: 16th Nov 2020 @ 11:53pm

We have been learning about keeping safe when using the internet as part of our E-safety day. We looked at a story about Smartie the Penguin and his new tablet. We thought about the problems that Smartie had whilst playing online including pop up adverts, websites for older children and cyber bullying and what he should do in these situations.

The children made sock puppets of Smartie, film reels of the events in the story and information posters to help other children make the right choices when using the internet.

Below are some examples of the fantastic work they have done which will be added to our new E-Safety display in the computer room.

RE - Our Special Places

Date: 9th Nov 2020 @ 11:10pm

As part of our RE learning this half term we have been thinking about places that are special to us. The children thought about where it was that was special to them, why this place is so special and how they feel when they are there. The children really explored their feelings and discussed some very important reasons as to why their special place were important to them.

Below are a few examples of class 5's special places with their own thought and feelings to give a little more detail about their choices.

Home Learning Projects - Thank You Parents!

Date: 2nd Nov 2020 @ 11:16pm

We would like to say a huge THANK YOU to our parents in class 5 for all your time and effort with the children’s home learning projects. We had some very creative pumpkin entries for our competition and we are so impressed with the space rockets the children have made at home. Your support really does make a difference to your children and their learning, so again THANK YOU!

Below we have a few examples of the brilliant work we have received from home.

Black History Week - Nelson Mandela

Date: 21st Oct 2020 @ 12:07am

Year 2 have really enjoyed learning about Black History this week. We explored Nelson Mandela in more detail, as an inspirational figure that fought for change for black people. The children were eager to learn lots about him and expressed their thoughts and feelings about his time in prison and how he wanted equal rights for all in South Africa. We are so proud of how thoughtful and empathetic all the children were when thinking about how tough his life had been.

The work that they have produced is amazing and below are a few examples from a variety of children in class 5.

Our Fantatsic English

This week we have been reading the book Cinnamon in English. The children created some beautiful pyramid scenes and added in some fantasic descriptions. They included expanded noun phrases, similes, alliteration and onomatopoeia. We are so proud of their learning!!

Here are a few examples of their amazing jungle scenes.

Our INDIA afternoon

Date: 30th Sep 2020 @ 4:44pm

This week we ended out topic all about INDIA with a carousel of activities, to give the children a taste of what life in India would be like. We tried Indian food, designed Indian clothing, created Indian patterns, listen to Indian music and even had a go at yoga. The children were very enthusiastic and enjoyed each of the activities.
