Tadpole's Promise

Over the past two weeks the children have been reading the story 'Tadpole's Promise'.

They began their learning by reading the first half of the story. They then predicted what might happen at the end of the story.

The children were then put into small groups and they then worked together to create a piece of drama around the beginning of the story.

The children concentrated on fronted adverbials and direct speech. This supported them when writing their alternative ending to the story ‘Tadpole’s Promise’.

The children came up with wonderful endings and the writing they produced was incredible.

 

 

Pantomime

Date: 12th Dec 2025 @ 8:24am

This week the children in class 11 attended the annual christmas Pantomime. 

The children watched 'Beauty and the beast'.

They started the day by walking up to Queen Elizabeth Hall. There they found their seats and got ready to watch the show.

They had an amazing time, singing, dancing and laughing along with the actors.

When we arrived back at school they all shared their favourite part of the show.

They can't wait to go again next year.

DT Sewing

Date: 3rd Dec 2025 @ 9:09am

This week class 11 have been practicing their sewing skills.

The learnt how to thread a needle and how to use running stitch and cross stitch.

They will be using these skills over the next few weeks to create their own family crests.

The children are very excited about their DT project and look forward to showing the parents on Thursday 18th December.

This week in Class 11 the children have begun to design their cross stitch family crests.

The began the week by researching different family crest designs.

They then used those designs to create their own crest.

Next week the children will begin sewing their family crests.

 

We hope that they will be finished in time for our fantastic finish afternoon where the childrens parents will be able to come and see all of their learning from this term.

Jodrell Bank

Year 5 had an amazing time on their trip to Jodrell Bank.

The children enjoyed exploring the large telescopes and were amazed by the incredible dome experience.

The children are looking forward to using what they have learnt on their trip to enhance their science learning in school.

This week in Year 5 we have started our new story of the term 'The Mapmakers' by Tamzin merchant. The children have enjoyed listening to the story and acting out chapters 1 and 2. 

The children will be using this story to support their writing for the next few weeks.

 

 

In science, the children have begun to learn about Earth and Space. In a few weeks we will be going to Jodrell Bank to explore the large sattelite and telescope.

 

In topic, the children have started learning about maps. Over the next few weeks they will learn how to read maps, identify the 8 compass points and will take part in a orienteering session.

 

It has been a great start to the half term and the teachers are very excited to see how much information the children can remember at the end.

Week beginning 29.09.25

This week in Class 11 the children have been learning how to mentally multiply by 10, 100 and 1000. After a few practices the children were able to understand the concept of multiplying by these numbers.

They finished their lesson by playing 'Roll the dice'. This supported their understanding and the children had lots of fun multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000.

Whilst they have really enjoyed their maths and literacy lessons, PE has definitely been one of their favourite lessons this week.

 

This week in PE, the children have learnt how to create shapes whilst balancing on either one leg or one arm and one leg. The children were very creative and really impressed Miss Gilmour with their balancing skills.

We then moved on to different types of rolls. The children set the hall up by placing mats around the room. They then moved into small groups and took it in turns to practice their log rolls, egg rolls and forward rolls.

Next week, we will be putting all of our PE learning into a sequence.

Year 2's Weekly Blog

Welcome Back to another school year.

 

It has been a super week in Year 2, we have been looking at the book 'The Big Bad Owl'  by Steve Smallman.  The children have been strating to write about the main character Scowl and will be writing a retell next week.

This week in Class 6

In Class 6, we have been taking part in a football competitionagainst Class 3, 4 and 5.

 

We are super excited to say that we won the trophy, but more inmportantly we played with respect.

Skeletons

This half term the children have been learning all about Skeletons in their science lessons.

They have learnt why our skeletons are important and have also taken part in an experiment to see if all skeletons are the same size.

The children had to measure eachothers heads, feet and arms. They concluded that all skeletons are different sizes.

 

They have also created a power point about skeletons.

Ask your child to show you their power point on their iPad.

Class 6 Blog

The children in Class 6 managed to win the monthly competition for word millionaires. They got to spend some time in the library where the children enjoyed a lovely hot chocolate and a biscuit, while they listened to many stories. 
 
In class we have been working on column subtraction in Maths and learning all about the seaside in our English lessons.

Week Ending 3rd May 2024

Class 14 have been working extremely hard over the past few weeks to help get themselves prepared for their upcoming SAT's tests. The children have all been trying hard with their revision, working on their areas for development. 

Over the weekend, please run through some of their past papers with your child them to support them, read books and ask them lots of questions and also please ensure that your child has a good nights sleep.

This week in Year 5, we have been news reporters on the scene at the tragic fire at Notre-Dame cathedral. The children have immersed themselves and have done a great job at bringing the news to life through roleplaying as interviewers, eye-witnesses and firefighters. Please make sure to ask your children about their learning this week- can they recognise the difference between direct and reported speech? This links to our Geography topic where the children have been learning about the geogrpahical layout of France, we have learnt that France is divided into regions, what these regions are called and known for and about the mountain ranges and rivers which are significant features in the French landscape.

We hope that you enjoyed Class 11's assembly and that they are keeping you aware of the exciting learning we are doing into the story of King Lear.

Next week, we have a really exciting week planned, including our DT work, baking scones, and our Fab Finish for our French topic. Make sure that you are coming into school and not missing out on these experiences. 

Curriculum Week Year 3

This week Year three have been celebrating curriculum week.

 

The children listened to the story:

Mixed: An Inspiring Story About Colour : Chung, Arree: Amazon.co.uk: Books

 

The children described the purple character in the story. They used similes and conjunctions to improve their writing.

Some of the similes they included were 'as cool as a cucumber, as round as a ball, as loud as a lion'.

They also tried to include different conjunctions such as; when, before, after, while and because.

 

Towards the end of the week the children wrote a speech from the Blue family introducing the colour Purple. They worked extremely hard on their handwriting and spelling skills. They used vocabulary linked to the type of character they were pretending to be.

 

The children also took part in drama where they used different techniques to act out the story.

During the afternoons the children took part in some art lessons. They practiced shading using coloured pencils and paint. They then created a picture of the purple character using their shading skills.

Egyptian Necklaces

This half term the children in class 7 have been learning all about Ancient Egypt.

This week the children took part in a DT lesson where they designed, planned and created an Egyptian Necklace to sell at the Manchester Mueseum.

The children had lots of fun adding patterns and colours to their designs.

The Stone Age

This half term year three have been learning all about the Stone Age.

They started their learning with a visit from a drama school who explored the Stone Age through drama.

They then took part in a WOW afternoon where they were able to carve tools, research the different periods of time and create cave paintings.

The children enjoyed recreating a picture of Stone Henge using water colours and collage.

 

Great Britian

Date: 14th Sep 2023 @ 10:47am

This half term the children will be learning all about Great Britain.

 

The children had a wonderful afternoon tasting traditional food from the 4 countries, learning traditional dances and drawing the countries flags.

 

They are very excited to find out the answers to all of their questions.

Healthy living

Class 7 started their science learning for this half term with a WOW afternoon.

 

They took it in turns to taste different fruits and vegetables, create obseervational drawings of the fruit and vegetables, learn about the five food groups and create a healthy balanced plate.

They had lots of fun and took part in lots of discussions about how to stay healthy.

Merry Christmas

Class 7 have had a wonderful week celebrating Christmas.

14.11.22 Setting Description

This week in our English lessons we are going to be looking at a setting description of the ice age.

The children watched the film last week and used what they saw to create their own settings.

They worked as a team to create a setting box, where they then thought of adjectives and similies to describe the different parts.

Oceans and Seas

Date: 7th Oct 2022 @ 8:26am

 

This week in topic we used our atlases to look for the seas and oceans that surround the UK.

We worked with our partner and labelled the map of the UK.

Miss Gilmour then challeneged us by asking us to find 10 different rivers that could be found across all four countries of the UK.

We enjoyed using the atlases and were able to find all of the rivers.

 

We will link our topic lesson to National Poetry day where we will learn about how we can save our oceans by recycling!

English- Harry and the Jaggedy Daggers

Over the last three weeks class 7 have been looking at the story 'Harry and the Jaggedy Daggers'.

The children have worked really hard to create a setting description, character description and an alternative retell.

During their lessons the children have really impressed Miss Gilmour with their knowledge and vocabulary.

It has been a great start to Year 3 and Miss Gilmour is very excited to see how the children's writing progresses over the year.

 

Ask your children if they can remember the story we have been reading.

Introducing the iPads!

This week in year three we have introduced the iPads that we will be able to take home.

We have been very excited to learn all about our iPads and how to keep them safe.

We have all made a promise to our teachers that we will look after our iPad and use it for our learning in school and for homework outside of school.

We cannot wait to be able to take them home with us next week!

Great Britain

This week the children took part in a WOW afternoon!

The children discussed what they already knew about Great Britain and what they would like to learn.

They then looked at the flags, traditional dances, clothing and food from the four countries.

They had a wonderful time!

Intraschool Football

Date: 7th Jul 2022 @ 8:55am

This week we took part in the Intra School Football tournament.

Class 7 played against class 8, 9 and 10.

Clas 7   0-0 Class 8

Class 7   2-0  Class 9

Class 7   2-0 Class 10

 

They worked as a team to become the champions of the tournament.

Those children who were waiting to have their turn cheered on our team from the side lines and some even created dance moves for our team.

They had a wonderful morning and couldn't believe that they had won the trophy.

A fantastic end to a fantastic year!
