Nursery Weekly Blog WB 3/1/2023

All the children have come back from the holidays very happy to catch up with their friends and tell us all about the things they have been doing in the holidays - it sounds like they had lots of fun!
This week we have been doing lots of great learning about Winter. We read the book Kippers snowy day and talked about what it feels like in Winter and the sorts of things that people do and aear in the cold weather - all we needed was some real snow!
All the children are now loaded on See Saw - please use their individual logins to register them and do some fantastic home learning!
Nursery Weekly Blog WB 5/12/2022

This week we have been doing lots of great learning about Twinkle Twinkle Little Star whilst making lots of preparations for Christmas in Nursery.
Our Christmas hats are looking fantastic and the children have worked really hard with all the other things they have made. We also decorated out Christmas tree and put a twinkly star just like in the rhyme on the top.
All the children have been doing some fantastic singing while they rehearsed for the Christmas performance next week - we look forward to seeing you all there!
Nursery Weekly Blog WB 28/11/2022

This week we have been doing lots of great learning about The Three Billie Goats Gruff. We have retold the story using actions, musical instruments and small world characters.
Our Maths activity involved feeding flowers to the goats to see who had the most!
We have started to practise songs for our Christams performance and the children are really enjoying joining in with the words and actions. We have started to get crafty for Christmas with the children making some decorations for our tree that we will put up next week.
On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we welcomed parents into Nursery for their VIP visits. The children loved showing off their Nursery and working with their grown ups to create Christams trees and wreaths. A massive thank you to all the parents who came to be with their child!
Next week we start joining up with Reception to practise our Foundation Nativity.
Reception Weekly Blog WB 14.11.2022

This week in Nursery we have been doing some fantastic learning about The Gingerbread Man. We have listened to different versions of the story and created actions to acoompany the story. We have practised our fine motor skills by using tweezers to add eyes and buttons to gingerbread men and finished off the week by making our own gingerbread biscuits - thank you to everyone who bought one to raise money for Children in Need.
Last week the children started reading in Nursery using books without words linked to their current phonics phase - Phase 1 - this will happen every FRiday. In addition, this week they have all chosen a book from our Nursery library to take home and enjoy reading with adults at home. This will be changed in family group time evry 2 weeks. We will not be able to send a book home unless we have a book bag in school.
On Friday we had a fantastic 'Children in Need' day in Nursery - all the children looked splendidly spotty!!

This week we have done some fantastic learning about the traditioal rhyme Baa Baa Black Sheep. We have learned the signs to accompany the rhyme and have had great fun retelling it using masks and puppets we have made.
We have learned about where wool comes from and even shorn our own sheep!We have used our hands to print sheep and used playdough to create 3D sheep.
This week we have started our weekly reading sessions and next week the children will be selecting books to bring home and share with grown ups at home. We are excited to start children off on their journey to .... READ BELIEVE ACHIEVE !!

This week in nursery we have been on a leaf hunt! We have done lots of fantastic learning about Autumn and how the seasons change. We have colour sorted leaves and created repeating patters using different coloured leaves. We have retold the story using a story tray and got on our tummies to draw the different parts of the story.
At the end of the week we learned all about Divali. we followed a little girl as she prepared for and then celebrated with her family. We thought about how our own family celebrations were the same and different to Divali. We made lanterns and were very lucky that Mrs Noor made us some Divali food to taste!
Next week we will be dooing lots of learning about Baa Baa Black Sheep!
Nursery Weekly Blog WB 17/10/2022

This week Nursery have had a fantastic curriculum week inspired by Black History Month. Early Years focus has been African dance, art and music.
We started off the week looking at African animals and creating dance moves for some of the animals. We had some very scary lions,lazy hippos, tall giraffes and slithering snakes. Then we started to put some of the movements to the music of African drums. We all had a turn to beat our rhythyms on the drums and some of us made drums of our own to play along.
We also made some jewelry inspired by Africa which we wore at our fantastic finish on Thursday when we played and moved along to some African drumming music.
We have had a fantastic half term in Nursery and hope that all our children have a lovely half term break and come back refreshed and ready to do some more great learning!

This week we have had a fantastic week of learning all about 'We're going on a Bear Hunt' We have retold the story in lots of diofferent ways - using actions,a story tray,story maps and on our tummies using giant markers and wallpaper. We all went on a bear hunt, with our map, back pack and binoculars, We had to be VERY brave. We have created bears with paint and playdough and made our own bear cave outside.
We have also started looking for the signs of Autumn and been looking at some of the things we can already see outside that tell us that Autumn is on its way.
Next week it is our Curriculum Week when the whole schools learning will focus on Black History Month. Nursery will be doing lots of Dance Art and Music linked to this - we cant wait!
Nursery Weekly Blog WB 3/10/2022

This week in Nursery we have been continuing our learning about 'All About Me!'. Our book for this week's learning was 5 Minutes Peace and we found out lots about the Large family and their lives. We played memory games about the things Mrs Large took upstairs and made her favourite food, marmalade on toast - we got to eat it as well.
We have also been doing lots of colour mixing - using our hands to print with primary colours them mixing them together to see what colour we produce.
Some children have also been sharing their family photos with us. It has been lovely to hear them confidently telling us all about the people in their family. We will be carrying on this learning next week if any other families would like to give or send us a photo.
Next week we will be going on a bear hunt with lots of exciting learning inside and out!
Nursery Weekly Blog WB 26/09/2022

This week in Nursery we started our topic for this term 'All About Me!'. Our learning was based on our book of the week 'My Mum and Dad Make Me Laugh!'
We enjoyed reading about a family where Mum liked spots and Dad liked stripes - and the little boy liked grey. We talked about the different animals the characters liked and the different colours in the book. We created collages using our favourite colours and used collage materials created images of our faces - they look fantastic!
In our Family Group time we have been visiting the different areas in Nursery investigating the resources,and talking about what expectations there are about caring for our things in Nursery.
Next week we will be talking about our families. It would be fantastic if the children could bring in a photograph of their family to talk about in their Family Group.
Nursery Weekly Blog WB 19/9/2022

This week we have welcomed our final group of new friends into Nursery - they have all made a fabulous start! All the children have done some great learning in all areas both inside and out!
Inside some children have made some fantastic models in our block area and others have done some great portraits of the Nursery staff.
Outside children have been practising balancing, jumping and swinging on the monkey bars. Lots of the children are very excited to watch the tomatoes, cucumbers and cougettes grow in the planters.
Next week we will be starting our new topic of All About Me with our first book being called My Mum and Dad Make Me Laugh!

This week in Nursery we have welcomed lots of new friends1 They have all settled in nicely and have enjoyed exploring the inside and outside space. All week all the children have done lots of great learning - including handprints and portraits for displays in school.
Next week we look forward to our final group of friends joining us on Tuesday.

The children who have started Nursery this week in the morning and afternoon have made a fantastic start with both their behaviour and learning. They have all settled really well and made lots of new friends - enjoying exploring inside and outside !

This week in Nursery we have been learning about Trains and Trams. The children joined in with Train role play and made their own train using chairs. We had children playing the passengers, someone playing the ticket man and another girl playing the snack lady.
In the creative area the children have been busy junk modelling trains and trams. Working really hard using one handed tools.
In the Maths area we focused on representing numbers.

This week in Nursery we read the story 'Biscuit Bear". We had a teddy bear picnic and shared our food. In the creative area we painted the bear, made a puppet and even decorated the bear.
On the playdough table we made biscuit bear using eyes and buttons.
We focused on melting also by melting chocolate and decorating biscuits, yummy!

We've had a super, festive week in Nursery. Our story of the week was the Christmas Story. On Tuesday we had a lovely party, where the children played musical statues, pass the parcel and musical bumps. On Wednesday the children perfomed the Nativity with reception, which they were all fanastic at. To finish the week off we had a very special visit from Father Christmas who left the children a lovely present.

This week was curriculum week in School, in Nursery we focused on how we can be a Greenhill Citizen.
On Monday we talked about our classroom rules and how important it is to follow them.
On Tuesday we talked about about how helpful shop keepers are with in the community. The children thought of so many lovely thank you comments they could next say when they're shopping about with their parents.
On Wednesday looked at pictures from the story 'We are Free'. We had a group discussion about respecting the differences in School.
In the writing are we drew self portraits using a mirror, focusing on our features. We also decorated Greenhill badges using different coloured patterns.
What we've been learning about in Nursery 11/10/21

This week we've been learning about a story called 'The wolf who wouldnt sleep'. We had group discussions about how important it is to go to sleep early and follow a healthy routine. We talked about our Dentist experiences and what drinks and foods are good for us. All about keeping a balanced diet.
In the Maths area we focused on counting and recognising shapes. We also looked at making patterns with different colours using lego. All the children did super with finishing the pattern.
In the Writing area we drew patterns using different colours and shapes. In the creative area we painted self potraits to fill up our lovely Family tree display in Nursery.
We had fun outdoors as the morning children found a furry catterpillar looking for food.
What we've been learning about in Nursery..08/10/21

This week in Nursery we read a story called 'Stickman'. Selected children went on a nature walk to look for children sticks and Autumn coloured leaves, we then used those sticks to make our own stick man, using glue and tape.
In the creative area the children used natural materials to print and observed the different patterns we can make.
For our special Read Achieve Day on Thursday we created a class story box based on the story Stickman. Some children were busy drawing the characters on paper whilst some children decorated the box by painting and sticking to match the environment.
In the writing area we focused on drawing our family members for our lovely Family tree display!
What we've been learning about in Nursery (27/09/21)

This week in Nursery we have been learning about a story called 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt'. We had our own bear hunt outdoors as we looked for the hidden bears and chanted the story. In the writing area we drew our favourite part of the story using feltips. In the Maths area we tried to finish the pattern, by looking for the missing bear.
In the small world area we acted out the story pretending to be the family, going through the different environments singing the rhyme out loud!
What we've been learning about in Nursery 20/09/21

This week we started our new topic which is 'I Wonder All about Me'. We read a story called 'My Mum and My Dad Make me Laugh. We looked at different patterns and talked about them being the same and different. We also looked at animal prints and tried to draw them, using the matching colours.
In the creative area we painted spots and stripes just like from the story. In the investigating area we made different patterns using natural materials.
Since our new topic is all about family, as a class we looked at family potraits our friends and talked about who we live with.

This week we've been learning about this week...Farm animals

This week we've been learning about Farm animals! We read a story called 'The little red hen' which was about lazy farm animals who would not help the hen make bread. We looked at videos about how bread is made and how the farmer collects the wheat.
In the painting area we painted pictures of hen using the correct colours. We also used cotton woll to paint picture of sheep.
In family group activities we looked at the jobs the farmer has to do and where the different foods come from!
We drew pictures of the farm animals and began to sound out how to write them.
What we've been learning about this week...Mini Beasts! (14/06/21

This week we started our new topic, which was Living Things. We focused on Mini Beasts and read the story 'The Hungry Caterpillar'. In the writing area we drawed the hungry caterpillar and thought about all of the different foods he ate. In the painting area we painted him using the correct colours. We worked together in pairs to sequence the order of the story.
For maths we look at ladybirds and how their spots are always symmetrical. We used them to play a number game, matching the right side of the numbered spots. We also looked at simple addition and tried adding the fruits together by writing the numeral down.

Curriculum in Nursery 07/06/21

Welcome back parents & children!
This week was curriculum week... out of space!
We read the story 'Whatever next' about a bear who shoots of to space. In the writing area drew our own creations of spaceships, attempting to write captions using the phonics mat.
We focused on technology in maths as we played a number game on the computer. We used the computer mouse to give hungry teddy his cakes.
We had so much fun with the beebots as we had to move him all round using directions, making sure he does not touch any of the planets. We worked together as a team!
On the creative table we did some foil printing with glitter making a picture of a moon.
Can I remind parents to do seesaw learning with their children.
