What we've been learning about this week...Mini Beasts! (14/06/21

This week we started our new topic, which was Living Things. We focused on Mini Beasts and read the story 'The Hungry Caterpillar'. In the writing area we drawed the hungry caterpillar and thought about all of the different foods he ate. In the painting area we painted him using the correct colours. We worked together in pairs to sequence the order of the story.

For maths we look at ladybirds and how their spots are always symmetrical. We used them to play a number game, matching the right side of the numbered spots. We also looked at simple addition and tried adding the fruits together by writing the numeral down.

Curriculum in Nursery 07/06/21

Welcome back parents & children!

This week was curriculum week... out of space!

We read the story 'Whatever next' about a bear who shoots of to space. In the writing area drew our own creations of spaceships, attempting to write captions using the phonics mat.

We focused on technology in maths as we played a number game on the computer. We used the computer mouse to give hungry teddy his cakes.

We had so much fun with the beebots as we had to move him all round using directions, making sure he does not touch any of the planets. We worked together as a team!

On the creative table we did some foil printing with glitter making a picture of a moon.

What we've been learning about this week..space 24/05/2021

This week we've been learning about transport that takes us to space. We read the story 'Zoom Rocket Zoom'. 

In the maths area we looked at 2D shapes, circles, square, rectangle and triangles. We used to shapes to make rockets. We also looked at numbered stars and tried to match the quantity with moon rocks.

In creative area we used shapes again to make rockets, we used tin foil to make mini rockets using junk modelling. We used recycled bottle lids and paint to make pictures of planets. 

We sang our '5 little men in flying saucer' and wooshed our children away. 

To end our lovely week we finally let our butterfly free outside, we all lined up and went to our nature garden.

This week we've been learning all about Air travel. We shared a story about a helicopter and an airplane. 

In the creative area we made hot air balloons using paper plates, paint and straw. Following our air travel topic, in the writing areas we made our own passports, thinking of the initial sounds we needed to write.

Its been an exciting week for receptions eggs as they hatched! We all had a gentle stroke of the chicks and talked about what things they needed to survive in their small box. 

In the maths area we had fun with shapes as we played shapes domino!

What we've been learning about..10/05/21

This week we've been learning all about transport on the water.

We found a mysterious pirate in our classroom who needed our help as he was lost. We had to work together and make him a list of all of the emergency items he will need to survive on his ship.We even took part in pirate role play and followed a map to find treasure! We also made our own maps and have started to label them with initial sounds. 

On friday we had a Eid party, we played musical statues, watched a movie and had some delicious snacks. 

Thankyou to the parents who brought the snacks in, we wish you all an Eid mubarak :) 

This week we've been learning...

This week we started our new topic, which is transport. We focused on road travel. We read a book called 'Naughty Bus'. In the writing area we used shapes and glue to make a car. We also designed our own car by drawing on wheels and passengers.  In the small world area we had fun with small cars and trains, helping them paint.

In R.E we have been learning about Islam. We looked at a prayer mat and shared our own experiences of going to the Mosque. 

On Friday we had digital lift of day were we focused on technology. We made chocolate crispies using the microwave. We took pictures of our friends using the ipad. 


 

What we've been learning about..01/04/21

This week we've been learning about what we want to be when we're older. We did circle time to discuss what occupations we would like to do when we're older. 

We took advantage of the lovely weather outside and did an easter egg number hunt. When we found a number we had to write it down. 

In the creative area we made easter eggs with lovely patterns and ribbon. We also made Easter cards for our family using a potato with patterns.

A lovely end to a term. Have a safe and relaxing holiday, see you all on the 19th April.

This week we've been learning all about police officers, We read a story called 'I'm afraid you're teddy in trouble'.

In maths we looked at fingerprints and compared amounts. In the creative area we looked at shapes and made a police car looking after them. 

In the lego we played with a police station and police cars.

This week we have been learning about Fire Fighters. We made a big fire engine by working together as a team. We read a story called 'A cat in the tree'. In maths we played a number game. We had to use plastic tweezers to pull out numbers from the fire (tissue paper). In Phonics we re-cap the letter S. We also looked at voice sounds and practiced them. 

What we've been learning about..First week back (12/03/21)

This week we have been learning about Doctors and Nurses. We transformed our home area in Nursery into Greenhill's Doctors Surgery! We all joined in with some great doctor and patient role play, using a stephoscope, a thermometer and even bandaging our patients up. We also looked at some pictures of patients in the doctors and talked about what we thought was going on, this works great to improve our sentence structures. 

In phonics we had a re-cap rhyme and made a silly soup.

In maths we looked a more and less, comparing amounts.

In the creative area we made ambulances using junk modelling and blue pompoms for the siren. 

We also made mothers day cards for our lovely mums!

Starter: Re-cap the name of the story to the children and show/describe them a picture of the characters.

 

Main: Ask the children to draw a jack from the story. Remember to focus on detail.

Encourage your child to draw the beanstalk also. Remember the beanstalk was very big so we need to make sure it’s a lot bigger than jack.  

 Draw on a paper at home, parents to upload these pictures onto seesaw so your teacher can see and mark it!

  • Let’s check in the front garden, what can we hear?
  • Does the back garden sound the same?

Explain that plants need sun and water to grow. How we need to eat our dinners to grow it’s the same for plants.

Talk your child about how the plant grows. Look at the example of the cycle also.

 

Task: Go into your front of back garden and look for what plans you can see.

 

Go back inside and draw a picture of what you saw. Parents to take a picture of the drawing and upload onto seesaw so teachers can see and mark.

Remind the children to draw in detail, thinking about the setting also. Draw grandma’s house or the forest in the back of the picture.

What we have been learning about this week (07.12.20)

This week we have been learning about the story 'The Jolly Postman'. We learnt how christmas is celebrated by christians. As a group we wrote a letter of the things we would like from Santa Claus and then posted the letter, using a stamp and envelope. For maths we played a game called build a tower, we had to roll the dice, count the dots, then build a tower using that number of bricks. In phonics, we listened to different sounds in bottles, trying to guess what they were and if they compared to any everyday sounds we hear. 

On panto day we filmed our two christmas songs that will be joined with Reception Nativity. More information on how to access this will be sent out soon. 

How to make home made playdough

I have attacthed an ingredients list for whats needed to make home made playdough. This is a great way to get the children the improve their fine motor skills. 

Simply add all the ingredients into the bowl, (Listed in the picture) and mix away. Place the bowl into the microwave for 2 minutes, stir, microwave again and stir. 

What we've been learning about..23.11.20

This week we've been learning all about weddings. We read the story 'Scarecrows wedding'. We took part in some role play and dressed up as brides and grooms and had our own wedding, in play. We drew our own brides and grooms focusing on the features. We talked about our own experiences of celebrations, drawing mendhi patterns and looking at the teachers wedding experiences. Using junk model materials and lots of imagination we made our own wedding cakes.

What we have been learning about this week (16.11.20)

This week we've learning about birthdays. We read a story called 'The Night Before My Birthday'. We made birthday invitations talking about who we would invite and where we have the party. In the creative area we painted birthday cakes and made birthday hats using, coloured shapes, features and pom poms. In maths we looked at numbered cupcakes and tried to match the amount using candles. On the theme of cake, we also talked about healthy and unhealthy food, looking at pictures of food and separating them into the two piles. 

This week was Anti bullying week. In small groups we talked about what makes a good friend and a bad friend. We looked at pictures of behaviour we think makes us happy and sad. 

What we have been learning about this week (09.11.20)

This week we've been learning all about the story 'The tiger who came to tea'. During the week learnt some tiger facts and recorded our answers as a group. We drew our ideal meal we would make for the tiger. On the creative side we made some tiger faces using colour, eyes and stripes, painted tigers focusing on the features of a tiger and finally we practiced our cutting. 

In maths we learnt about the shapes, circle, triangle, square and triangle. We also went on a shape hunt. We also learn about money and played 5 current buns in a bakers shop. 

What we've been learning about in Nursery! (19.10.20)

In nursery we have been learning about a story called 'We're going on a bear hunt'. In groups we went on our own bear hunt outside, looking for hidden bear cutouts which was great fun! The children have also been busy painting and drawing the main character from the story, the bear!! We created story maps, drawing out what we remember from the story. We also acted out the story in a music session. Remebering all the key phrases from the story!

What we have been learning about this week (12.10.20)

We have finally got our full intake of Nursery children. During circle time we had the confidence to share our names to our new class with lots of our new friends. Our topic this week was 'My family'. We listened to a story about Mum and Dad and shared our own thoughts about our parents, we made paintings of our parents. We also made little paper houses with drawings of our family members. To end the week we shared family photographs and spoke about out family members to our class.
