WE LOVE TO READ!

KS1 have had an amazing day celebrating everything.... READING! 

For world book day we have had some amazing character costumes and celebrations of vocabulary! We loved our reading party where we completed our sponsored read-a-thon. We read for 30 minutes in strange places around out classrooms. 

We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who sponsored KS1 for their reading! We raised an amazing £283 towards our classroom funds.

In Class 3 this week...

This week Class 3 have had such a fantastic week, taking part in lots of different activities...

 

At the beginning of the week the children got to use their super drama skills to act out the different parts of their African workshop to support them with their re-count this week. The children created different freeze frames to demonstrate the activities we took part in last week.

In maths we have been looking at multiplication. The children used a range of concrete, pictorial and abstract methods to support them with their learning.

The children used counters to support them in creating arrays to solve multiplication number sentences. 

We have also taken part in lots of exciting art activities this week. The children have been looking at both primary and secondary colours, practicing mixing and creating a range of different colours as well as using them in a range of different styles, looking at artists including Kandinsky.

Our African Workshop in Year 1

Date: 4th Feb 2022 @ 5:10pm

This week Year 1 took part in an exciting African workshop as part of their Geography learning all about Africa! The children had so much fun taking part in a range of different activites.

First the children got dressed up as lots of different African Animals and had lots of fun pretending to be each animal using a range of different movements and sounds.

AfIMG_1167.jpgAfter all that dancing the children were very tired, so we sat down and tried lots of delciious African fruits, that we had already learnt about when reading the story Handa's surprise! 

Making Masai masks in Class 3

This week class 3 have been learning all about the Masai tribe as part of their topic learning all about Africa. The children were so excited to make their own African masks, using paint and oil pastels, making sure they used lots of bright colours, including red - The favourite colour of the Masai tribe! First week back in class 3 ...

Class 3 have had a fantastic first week back in school, and we have been so proud of them and how enthusiastic they have been coming back into school and putting in 100% effort into all of their learning!

This week in maths we have been looking at addition, using dienes to help us when adding two digit and one digit numbers. The children have worked really hard all week using a range of different methods.

In Golden time on Friday lots of children enjoyed taking part in a disney dance workout and loved showing off their dance moves to their friends.

We have had such a brilliant week back n class 3 , and we can't wait for another fantastic term. 

Finding and making shapes in class 3

This week in class 3 we have been looking at 3D shapes. The children had so much fun making their own 3D shapes using sticks and play dough, thinking carefully about how many vertices, edges and faces each shape had.

We also got the chance to go on an exciting 3D shape hunt around school, looking all around to see what shapes we could find in the corridors and outside. We found lots of different 3D shapes around school. The children were particularly excited by the Christmas tree (Cone) and the glittery baubles (Spheres).

This week the children got into the Christmas spirit, taking part in some Christmas Cosmic Yoga with Mrs Roscoe. We were so impressed with how hard the children tried carefully to match each individual pose.

This week as part of our maths learning, class 3 got the exciting opportunity to take part in a 2D shape hunt around school.

Exploring Autumn in Class 3

This week in Year 1,  we started our new class topic in Science looking at Seasons. We started off the week by looking at the season that we are currently in ... Autumn.

Class 3 got to take part in an exciting Autumn walk around school, looking at all of the different colours, trees and animals as well as thinking about the weather at this time of the year.

When we got back into class we even made our very own Autumnal wreaths. Take a look at some of them below!

An exciting week in class 3...

This week class 3 have had an amazing first week back after their half term break. We have been so impressed with the learning they have produced this week.

In maths we have been re-capping our subtraction learning, using a range of different methods to help us, including dienes, number lines and pictorial representations.

In Science we have been learning all about the seasons and created some beautiful seasons wheels, drawing the different things that happen in each season.

At the beginning of the week we also had an extra special visitor... Florence Nightingale! The children were so excited to meet her and got the chance to ask her lots of interesting questions. This half term we will be learning even more about her, and we can't wait to find out more!

Citizenship week in class 3

This week in class 3 we have been learning all about citizenship. The children have had the opportunity throughout the week to think about what makes  good citizen as well as thinking about what we as 'Greenhill Citizen's' have the right to.

The children created a beautiful whole class drawing of our rights as a citizen in school, as well embracing our individuality and differences, creating our very own all about me posters and sharing them withour friends.

We were so proud of how hard the children have been working this week and we hope they have a fantastic half term holiday!

Curriculum day in Class 3

On Thursday this week Class 3 got the opportunity to take part in our 'Read , Achieve, Suceed ' day. The children took part in lots of exciting activities during the day all based around our class text 'The lonely Beast.'

We used our drama skills to act in role as the lonely beast as well as drawing and creating out very own settings for where we thought the beast would live. Lots of us brought in our amazing story boxes too and we got the chance to share them with the rest of the class. 

During the day ,we were extremely lucky as everyone in our class got to take home their very own book that they had chosen. We had so much fun taking a look at all of the different books on offer.

Another amazing week in Class 3

This week Class 3 have had so much fun reading the story 'The Gingerbread man.'

On Tuesday we even received a letter from the gingerbread man explaining that he wanted a different ending to his story! Class 3 came up with lots of super ideas and even used their super acting skills to act out different parts of the story and coming up with some brilliant sentences. 

In maths this week we have been learning all about addition. The children have been adding different amounts using the part-whole model, using a range of different methods to support their learning. We were so impressed with everybody's counting skills.

In Topic this week we have been exploring our local area using lots of different maps and interactive resources, as well as thinking about where we live and writing down our own address. 

We have had such an amazing week this week in Class 3, and we can't wait for next week where we will take part in even more fantastic learning!

Creating Sensory toys in Class 3

This week in Class 3 as part of our Science learning, we had the amazing opportunity to make our own sensory toys!

Using cardboard tissue rolls and tissue paper we carefully wrapped and decorated our toys, to make rain 'shakers' adding in cloves to make sure they smelt especially nice, as well as producing a lovely relaxing sound.

Getting creative in class 3

This week in Class 3, we have had so much fun reading the book 'You Choose.' 

The children have been using their imaginations to think about what kind of house they would like to live in, what they would put inside and what kind of things they would like to eat.

We made super setting boxes describing all of our amazing ideas using lots of super adjectives that really impressed our teachers! 

In Science this week we have carried on looking at our topic ' Our bodies.' The children were exploring the sense of 'hearing' and got to use their creative skills to create their own plastic cup telephones. Take a look at some of our creations below.

Our first week back...

This week Class 3 had their first full week in Year 1. We have been so impressed with how quickly the children have settled into their new classroom and how hard they have worked with their learning.

This week in Literacy we have been reading the story ' The lion who wanted to love.'  We have had so much fun using drama to act out the story, as well as working hard to write some super sentences to describe the main character in the story Leo.

In maths we have been working on our place value knowledge, sorting and ordering numbers and objects into different groups.

We have also started our new science topic this week - 'Our bodies.' We worked carefully as a class to correctly label the different body parts, and really impressed our teachers with all that we knew.

We are so excited to continue our learning next week and to see the amazing learning that the children produce. Well done Class 3 for a super first week in school. We are so proud of you! 

Making Castles in Class 3

This week as part of our DT learning we have been making our very own castles. 

The children got the chance to design their castle structures carefully, before working in groups to construct and decorate their designs, really bringing them to life using paint and a range of different materials.

We were so impressed with some of the finished pieces and how much effort the children put into their work.

On Friday we then evaluted our designs, thinking about what went well, as well as what we would do better next time.

 

Dragons in class 3

Date: 2nd Jul 2021 @ 7:02pm

This week in class 3, we came in on Monday morning to find a mysterious box of dragon eggs in our classroom, which has been making lots of noise over the weekend.

The children were so inspired by this that they created and designed their very own dragon eggs, and amazing dragons. From this we created a story opener all about them, describing what they looked like and where they lived including lots of fantastic adjectives.

In science we took part in another exciting science experiment, investigating which materials were waterproof and which were not. The children made some super predictions and enjoyed recording their findings as a group.

We have worked so hard this week as a class, and we can't wait to see what the final two weeks together will bring. 

Does it sink or float? - Class 3's super scientists

This week in class 3 we have been learning all about materials in science. As a class we did a group experiment where we explored which materials would  sink, and which would float. We made super predictions before and after our experiment and recorded what we found. Have a look at some of our pictures below. 

In maths we have been looking at multiplication and division. The children have been using a range of practical and pictorial equipment to support them with their learning. We were so impressed with how hard the children have worked this week.

Another fantastic week in class 3

This week, Class 3 have had another amazing week in school.

In maths we have had so much fun learning all about capacity and volume. This week we got the chance to measure out different volumes, working carefully to use and accuratley read a measuring cylinder as well as looking at the scale on a measuring jug.

On Friday we also received a very special letter from Rapunzel. She wanted us to make her a magic potion. Can you guess what it was for? That's right it was to make her hair grow even longer. We had to work carefully in our groups to follow the recipe to make her magic potion, making sure that we measured out each liquid properly. 

This week we have also started learning about our new history topic 'Castles and knights.' We had so much fun finding out what it was like to be a knight, creating our very own coat of arms and taking part in medieval dancing. Take a look at some of the pictures below. 

Curriculum week in class 3

This week class 3 have had so much fun taking part in Curriculum week. We have been exploring technology in the future and thinking about how things might have changed in years to come. 

We had a go at designing and creating out very own planes, as well as making our own out of different materials and testing which would fly the best. 

We also created some amazing futurisitc cars, deisgning them first on the computer in 2D and 3D, as well as drawing and designing the robot that they would turn into. Take a look at some of our designs below. 

A lovely week in class 3

Last week before we broke up for half term, class 3 had another fantastic week in school.

In maths, the children were learning to tell the time, and got the chance to build and create their own clocks as well as reading and recording time using a range of different maths games. 

As part of our art learning, the children were also exploring print, using a range of different 3D sponges and shapes, to create the houses of parliment, linked to our learning all about Great Britiain. Take a look at some of the pictures below.

ICT fun this week in class 3

This week Class 3, got the chance to practice and perfect their ICT skills.

We had so much fun designing our own amazing fact sheets all about the different landmarks in London, as well as having a go at creating some of our own animations on scratch JR.

Our teachers were so impressed with how hard we worked on our animations, working hard to create a simple algorithm to make the characters move across the backgrounds we had chosen. 

Beautiful Eid cards and celebrations

Last week class 3 had so much fun preparing for Eid. We made our very own beautiful Eid cards, taking our time to colour them in neatly and write some lovely words to our friends and families. 

On Friday we had a very special Eid party In the afternoon, where all the children got dressed in their best party clothes, and played lots of party games, whilst enjoying some delicious party food! 

We hope all of our families had a fantastic Eid! 

Class 3

This week in class 3 we have been learning all about magnets and exploring the different materials that are magnetic and which are not. 

We went around the classroom using magnets to look at which objects were attracted to the magnets. 

We worked really hard to and had lots of fun! We found that an object must contain metal for it to be magnetic,  but that not all metals are magnetic.
