In Maths this week we recapped what we already know about measurement before moving on to capacity. We have had a brilliant week so far with our maths because we started measuring out different capacities and reading the scales. Then this lead us on to converting milliltres (ml) to litres (l) and vice versa and then we added and subtracted ml and l. The children have had lots of fun and really understood the learning. Super stars!

This week we took our Ipads outside to edit our introductions in the sun. We felt it was our best editing lesson so far. This was because we were editing on the IPads rather than written work, editing someone else's writing instead of our own and enjoying the gorgeous weather at the same time. We all want to do this again.

This week has been Curriculum Week and our theme was The Queen's Jubilee. The week started with an assembly from Mr Padley all about the Queen and her jubilee. Then the children have researched all about the queen and her family tree, made crowns for our royal tea party and created some amazing art work. There's been lots of questions asked, many new facts learned and lots of fun being creative. Well done Class 8!

This week we ended our Computing and Topic learning. In Topic we have been learning about volcanoes and have been fascinated by the things we have learnt. Our research skills have developed so well as we discovered new and interesting facts. In Computing we have been learning how to create a Power Point Presentation. We linked the two to create a PPT about Volcanoes. We visited Year 4 to buddy up and show them what we have been doing. They were so complimentary about our learning and enjoyed seeing what we had done as it reminded them of when they did it last year.

Our comprehension this week was a playscript called Rama and Sita. The children enjoyed reading and discussing the play before acting it out with great interest and creativity. After acting out the play the children answered questions about the text like what is different about this text to what we normally read? Can you think of descriptive words to describe the characters? The children had to skim and scan for answers and use deduction to work out answers.

Class 8 are continuing their learning on Volcanoes and in English this week they are writing songs about how one volcano feels, hopes and dreams. The children are really enjoying their task and we are very excited to see the outcomes.

This week we started our new topic about volcanoes. Despite being upset that our learning about Ancient Egypt had come to an end we were EXPLODING with excitement about our new topic. We started the week by making a volcano. We then wrote instructions for someone else to follow if they wanted to do the same. We labelled a volcano and learnt what was involved in the process of a volcanic eruption. We can't wait to see what else we will find out.

Class 8 have done so much great learning that we couldn't decide what to show! We decided to show our brilliant big writes and our amazing art work.
Our big writes were adventure stories based on Charlie Stinky Socks. We added new parts to the adventure in our handmade journals.
In art we were using a printing technique. We made a design based on our Egyptian learning and then created a print. We have enjoyed our learning so much!
Date: 29th Mar 2022 @ 10:36pm
In English we have been reading the book Sir Charlie Stinky Socks, The Mummy's Gold, which links well with our topic on Ancient Egyptians. The children have loved making a setting box based on the story setting and describing it using adjectives, similes and metaphors. The children are retelling the story this week but are adding their own ideas for an alternative retell. They will make their own journal like the one in the story and write their own adventure.

At swimming this week the children learnt Reach and Rescue skills. They learnt about the dangers of swimming in open water and jumping in cold water. They took turns to be a casualty, to save someone and to help someone. They shouted 'Don't panic - I will save you - catch this and kick your legs.' They were fantastic and took it serioulsy whilst enjoying the challenge. Hopefully they will never need to use these skills but if they should I am confident they could save a life.

This week Class 8 have been making links with their learning in Topic-Ancient Egyptians and English. They had to mummify a tomato just like the ancient Egyptians did. The children enjoyed scooping out the inside of their tomato and adding natron to mummify it. It was good fun!

Class 8 have been learning the Egyptian Myth about Set, the evil one. We have been entertained by Set's evil ways and wrote fantastic descriptions of him last week. This week we wrote the myth ourselves. We placed our myths in a casket, just like the one Set tricked his brother into getting in. We were so proud of how our writing looked and these two children did their best ever Big Writes.

Class 8's Science learning about plants.
Date: 2nd Mar 2022 @ 8:25pm
Class 8 started their new Science topic All about Plants. The children worked in cooperative groups to recall what they already know from previous learning. They talked about what they want to find out during our half term learning on plants. Then they looked at real plants and labelled all the parts. Finally, they researched using iPads and books to find out what the job of each plant part was. They all enjoyed looking close up at plants. Minahil told the class all about the root hairs on the roots and how these suck up the water for the plant. Well done!

Class 8 have been learning about metacognition this week. We have learnt what it is and how we can use it to enhance our learning. Mahad explained "Metacognition is when you are working hard and actually thinking. You get more stuff correct when you use metacognition properly"
We used the Plan, Monitor, Evaluate wheel to enhance our DT project making Egyptian jewellery. We are going to use the wheel to improve at a skill over the holidays too.

This week was Internet Safety week. Class 8 looked at how we behave online when playing games. They worked in cooperative groups and discussed games they played, why they enjoyed them and what experiences they had had when playing. We talked about treating people respectfully like you are talking to them face to face and then about what information do we need to keep safe. The children were very knowledgable about not sharing personal information and passwords and more importantly if they are ever unsure about anything to speak to a trusted adult. These are some of the leaflets Class 8 produced. Well done Class 8 you know the rules on Internet Safety!

Today Class 8 were real scientists. They carried out an investigation to find out which rock would be the best to build a house. The children made a prediction, gathered equipment and ensured all tests were fair. They tested which rocks were waterproof and which were the hardest wearing. The results showed slate and granite were the best rocks to build with. Great investigating Class 8!

This week we have started our topic on Ancient Egypt. We have learnt where in the world Egypt is and drawn the River Nile and major cities onto a map. Our second lesson was super exciting! We were archaeologists! We searched the sand for hidden Egyptian treasures being very careful not to damage them - just like real a archaeologist. We then hypothesised about why the artefact was a treasure before finding out facts about them. We are all so excited for a term of learning about Ancient Egypt.

This week in Class 8 the children have designed their pneumatic, moving mammoth, then created it and finally evaluated what went well and what they would do next time. The children loved seeing their creation come to life by using the pneumatics which opened and closed the mammoths mouth. They produced fantastic designs and all the outcomes were successful. The childrens' written work was beautiful and detailed. Well done Class 8! We are super proud of you.

Today Year 3 did their Christmas Cracker performance of the song 'O Little Town of Bethlehem'. They were AMAZING. There were so many words for them to learn and the song was completely new to them two weeks ago. We were blown away by their performance. SUPER STARS.

Class 8 created majestic Ice Age setting boxes and then wrote amazing descriptions using adjectives, similes and then extended their ideas by using conjunctions. We are really looking forward to reading their Big Writes on Friday. Why don't you ask your child to tell you all about their learning?
