In our afternoon learning we have been learning about the inspirational Sir David Attenborough. We have learned about his life and his work as a conservationist and naturalist. The children have become Recycling Rangers to help to look after our planet!

Next week we will be learning some more about animals that come from eggs.

The Journey of life in Class 12

Date: 10th Mar 2022 @ 4:57pm

In RE, Year 5 have been exploring the journey of life. We discussed how each of us has unique lifestyles and how we all have different experiences and because of this our journeys are different.

We looked at artist’s interpretation of life journeys and how they chose to represent them. We discussed a range of paintings and tried to interpret what they were trying to say about life.

Later, we created our own pieces of art work to show what we thought the journey of life is. The final art pieces were impressive and the children had really put a lot of thought into them. Well done!

We loved using our fresh eye glasses and correcting pens today when we looked at a WABOLL (What a bad one looks like), we thought about how we would make this piece of writing better again the success criteria we designed as a class and then decided their next steps for learning. This was an amazing learning point for our Year 2s 5AEB15F8-0BD0-41AC-A962-C1520DC178F8.jpeg804C37CF-EB52-47FA-8953-489F7C8A8A8A.jpeg

Metacognition in Y5

Date: 17th Feb 2022 @ 3:35pm

This week was our curriculum week, linked to metacognition. Year 5 have been involved a range of activities throughout the week.

We read the story ‘The Magic inside you’ and used it as a basis for inspiration for some of the activities that we did. We wrote secret letters to the people that are special to us. Some of the children wrote to their friends while others wrote to grandparents, siblings or cousins.

We also used the metacognition wheel to ‘plan, monitor and evaluate’ how we made scones. We asked ourselves many different questions at the planning, monitoring and evaluating stage. We all agreed that our scones turned out well but could still be better.

We also enjoyed using our artistic skills to show what metacognition is. The finished pieces looked amazing.

We also learnt a new skill of creating a game on the iPads. We planned how we wanted our games to look like and chose our characters. We continuously monitored and evaluated our games, creating changes to make them even better. Children then played each other’s games and gave them a big thumbs up.

The week has been busy but full of learning. Well done Year 5!

IMG_1216.jpg  IMG_1218.jpg

We have spent part of our mornings creating our very own affirmation books. We have enjoyed thinking about what will help us to progress in our learning. We have discussed the comfort, stretch and panic zones of learning and will use our affirmation books to support us!

IMG_1233.jpg  IMG_1234.jpg

We have been practiced the different Kagan structures that we have been using over the year. Our favourite structures are rally robin and round robin. To make it more interesting the teacher will ask a child what another child has shared with them.

On Wednesday we spent the day planning, monitoring and evaluating our own Egyptian necklaces. We thought about what we already knew about Egyptian necklaces, what we needed to learn and what resources we would need. We then began to make our necklaces and monitored our learning as we were going!

Metacognition Curriculum Week

Date: 16th Feb 2022 @ 3:53pm

This week in Class 5 we have been learning all about metacogniton and how this can help our learning. We started the week by thinking about what we thought metacognition was and then listened to the story the ' The magic inside of you'. We then thought about the magic inside of us and create a self portrait. We had to think about all the things that made us special and unique and wrote them inside of our hair and on our clothes. What fantastic artists we are!

On Wednesday, we then thought about our goals for the end of year 2, end of year 6 and what we would like to be when we are older. We considered how we could meet these goals.

Week ending 18.2.22

Date: 15th Feb 2022 @ 9:55am

This week has been Curriculum Week. The children have been developing their Metacognition.

What is Metacognition - you ask?

The term metacognition refers to an individual’s ability to plan, monitor, evaluate, and make changes to their own learning behaviours in order to confront challenges more effectively.

You might have heard it defined as ‘thinking about thinking’,

It is also a form of self-regulation, involving self-awareness, critical analysis skills, and the ability to problem-solve.

Having metacognitive skills means that they are able to recognise their own abilities, direct their own learning, evaluate their performance, understand what caused their successes or failures, and learn new strategies.

It can also help them learn how to revise when they are having tests as well as  develop their memory, attention, activation of prior knowledge, and being able to solve or complete a task.

Overall- It makes them learn more efficiently and more effectively, and so they are able to make more progress.

The children have done lots of creative tasks related to space - they have made junk model rockets, lego launching pads, collage moon buggies, sparkly solar systems and fantastic collage astronauts.

They will continue with this topic after half term.

The children are looking forward to finding out more things about Space.

Journey to Space

Date: 11th Feb 2022 @ 12:22pm

This morning, the children put on their helmets, got into their flying saucers and flew off to space!

When we arrived, we saw lots of stars and planets. We needed to be careful on the space rocks and hot gas volcano!

Year 6 - Safer Internet Day

Date: 11th Feb 2022 @ 10:38am

This week we looked at many ways on how we can always be safe on the internet.

Pupils recognised that although the internet is a fantastic resource, it also has some dangers. And remaining safe online is of great importance.

We started our session by discussing different games we played online and how we can remain both safe and respectful. Whilst reminding children to only play with friends and family who they know and trust, and to make parents/guardians aware of who they are playing with. It was a great opportunity for all of Year 6 pupils to engage in deep meaningful conversations about internet safety.

We also learnt how to be respectful to others online and to recognise what is healthy behaviour and unhealthy behaviour when playing online. We then presented our findings in our iPad, focusing on the kind of advice we would give to a individuals who are new to online gaming.

Learning in Class 8 11.2.22

Date: 11th Feb 2022 @ 10:22am

This week was Internet Safety week. Class 8 looked at how we behave online when playing games. They worked in cooperative groups and discussed games they played, why they enjoyed them and what experiences they had had when playing. We talked about treating people respectfully like you are talking to them face to face and then about what information do we need to keep safe. The children were very knowledgable about not sharing personal information and passwords and more importantly if they are ever unsure about anything to speak to a trusted adult. These are some of the leaflets Class 8 produced. Well done Class 8 you know the rules on Internet Safety!
