Class 3: Blog items

Year 1's learning this week...

Our first week back after the holidays and Year 1 have been super eager to learn! In literacy, we have been reading the story 'Meerkat Mail' which links to our Topic Africa this half term. We wrote some fantastic character descriptions all about the main character Sunny, using lots of adjectives. This week we also had a go at improving our learning by editing and adding in more adjectives and lots of different conjunctions!

In Maths, we have been re-capping our addition learning, using number lines and we have been adding 2 digit numbers as well as learning how to jump in tens and ones! 

This half term, in PSHE, we are looking at healthylifestyles. This week's focus was on germs and how to make sure we do not spread them. We carried out an experiment, showing the difference between using hand soap and not using hand soap. Class 4 had lots of fun!

Class 3 Weekly Blog WB 18/3/2024

This week in Class 3 we had an exciting delivery! Imagine our surprise on Monday morning when we found 4 dragon's egg in a nest!

 All week we have been doing lots of learning based on the lovely book 'Tell me your dragon'
Here is a video link to the story.
The children have written a fantastic description of the dragon and where it lives and next week will be writing instructions for how to look after it.
In Maths we have been doing lots of learning of learning about fractions and finding halves of shapes and amounts.
We have continued our learning about castles and have been thinking about what it would be like to live in one. Next week we will be designing and making our own castles!

Year 1 Weekly Blog WB 11/3/2024

This week we have done some fantastic learning creating an alternative re-tell of the story The Kiss That Missed. The children introduced new characters and new settings to give their own version of the story - they were very imaginative!

In Topic we have learned about how castles have changed over time and we placed the different sorts of castles on a timeline.

In Maths we have been using numberlines to solve subtraction equations and have solved real life problems in  a team challenge game - the winners managed to complte all the questions accurately and showed they were very confident to use a numberline.

On Thursday we had a visit from Madeleine Lindley Bookshop and each child was able to choose a book to take home and enjoy, it is a gift from the Harmonytrust and we hope they enjoy and traesure them!

Year 1 Weekly Blog WB 4/3/2024

This week we have started our learing about Knights and Castles. We used the book 'The Kiss that Missed' for our English learning. Here is a video of the book if you would like to share it with your child!

The children have written a re tell of the story focusing on including exciting verbs and good sentence starters in their writing.

In Maths the children have been doing lots of addition learning, using a number line to support them. Next week they will be moving on to using the same tool to help them with subtraction.

In topic we started to learn about the features of castles and learned some technical vocabulary to describe these buildings. Next week we will be learning about the different types of castlesthat there are in the UK.

Curriculum Week in Year 1

This week Year 1 have done some amazing learning based on the book Mixed which is about some colours who mix to make new ones ! The whole school have been focusing on writing and in Year 1 we have written a character description and a retell of the story. The writing the children have produced has been amazing and they should be very proud of themselves.

As well as writing the children have done some great drama learning creating a Soundscape of the city where the colours live and creating a Conscience Alley for the colours to walk through to decide whether they should mix or not.

The art work the children have created has also been based on the book and they have done some optical colour mixing based n the work of artist George Seurat. They also became illustrators for the afternoon and created some new characters for the book.

Next week our learning witll be linked to our topic learning about Knights and Castles and we will be reading the book The Kiss That Missed!

This week in Year 1 we have been using the text  The Kings Pant's to do lots of great English learning. Here is a link to the story if you would like to listen to it with your child.

Throughout the week the children have designed some special pants for the King to wear - they have been amazingly imaginative! On Friday they wrote a letter to describe the pants to the King - We hope he likes them!

We have continued our topic learning about Great Britain learning about human and physical features - next week we will be making some features out of junk as our end of Topic finish! And we will be creating a factfile of all the learning that we have done so far about Great Britain.

Thank you to all the parents who attended the phonics screening test parents meeting - some information for those parents who did not manage to attend will be sent home next week.

Year 1 Weekly Blog WB 29/1/2024

This week we have carried on with our learning about Paddinton Bear. This week he has gone on a tour of Great Britain, stopping at Mount Snowdon, Blackpool Tower,Edinburgh Castle, Giants Causeway and The Angel of the North. In our groups we have found out lots of facts about these landmarks ready to write a diary entry in Paddington's diary on Friday.

In Science we continued our learning about classifying anaimals by finding out lots of information about amphibians - making posters to share our knowledge.

In our Topic learning we have looked at British weather patterns and created a factfile on Purple Mash to show what each season looks and feels like.

Next week our new book will be 'The King's Pants' and in Science we will be looking at reptiles.

Learning in Year 1 15/01/24

This week, we have continued looking at the story of The Queen's hat but.. it came all the way to Glodwick! We have been using time connectives and fantastic adjectives to write super descriptive sentences.

In Maths, we have been looking at our number bonds to 10 and 20, using lots of different methods to help us.

We continued with our science learning, looking at Mammals and sorting them. 

In Topic, we had lots of fun learning all about British Traditions and will be moving onto look at the countries and captial cities in the UK.

We have had a fun week full of lots of learning!

Year 1 Weekly Blog WB 8/1/2024

This week in Year 1 we have done lots of fantastic learning! Our book for this week is The Queen's Hat here is a video link if you would like to watch it with your child

We did some fantastic drama learning using a Story Whoosh to retell the story where we made the shapes of lots of the landmarks in London that the hat flew over on its journey with our bodies. We have written a retell of the story using fantastic sentence starters. 

In topic we have started our new Science topic which is all about different sorts of animals. This week we looked at wild and pet animals and next week our learning will be about mammals.

In art we have looked at primary colours and created images with collage and pastels in the style of the artist Mondrian.

Next week we will be starting our topic learning about Great Britain!

P.E. is now on a Friday and we will be doing a half term of learning about gymnastics.

 

We love Autumn

Class 3 have enjoyed learning all about Autumn this week. We have been very crafty and created some beautiful Autumn pictures. We have also had some FANTASTIC home learning where families have enjoyed a local area walk to see the signs of Autumn. See our amazing learning below...

Class 3 - Weekly blog

This week Class 3 have had so much fun. As part of our PSHE learning we have been thinking all about caring for the environment and our school. The children loved getting the opportunity to use the litter pickers on the school grounds to ensure that we keep our school clean.

In P.E , the children took part in tennis relays and had so much fun practicing how to use the ball and racket.

This week in Class 3...

This week Class 3 have had so much fun! We had a very special visitor - Dexter the bear who loved joining in with all of our learning.

Another Exciting week in Class 3

This week Class 3 have had so much fun...

In topic we have been exploring the United Kingdom, looking at maps and identifying the different landmarks around Great Britain.

In Science we have been learning all about Plants. The children had so much fun using their continuous provision area to make models of trees.

In PSHE the children have been learning all about road safety and how to cross the road correctly. We had so much fun practicing this in class.

Looking at plants in Class 3

Making pancakes in Class 3

All about Autumn in class 3 WB 10.10.22

This week in class 3 we have been learning all about Poetry and creating our very own poems all about Autumn.

Throughout the week the children used lots of super adjectives to make their poems sound amazing, before performing them on Friday to the rest of the class.

Our first week back In Year 1

Class 3 have had a fantastic week this week getting to know their new teachers and settling into Year 1. In Literacy we have been reading the story ' The lion who wanted love,' writing a character description all about Leo the lion. The children had so much fun creating a class story whoosh to tell the story using their super drama skills.

In maths this week, the children have been working on our number skills, practicing their counting, ordering and sequencing of numbers. 

We can't wait for another fun week of learning next week!

Writing letters to the Queen

This week in Class 3 we have been reading a book called ‘The Queen’s knickers.’  In the story the Queen lost her knickers, so the children have designed their very own knickers for the Queen, writing her a letter all about their amazing designs...

As part of our maths learning class 3 have also been re-capping our knowledge of time, addition and subtraction. The children worked together in pairs to solve a range of different addition and subtraction questions.

Our London Cityscapes...

This week as part of our art learning class 3 have been creating some beautiful cityscapes of London inspired by the artist Paul Klee. We linked our art learning to our topic learning, looking at Great Britain. The children added different shapes to their cityscape of London and coloured them in using brightly coloured oil pastels. Our germs experiment in Class 3

Date: 6th May 2022 @ 4:45pm

This week in Class 3 as part of our PSHE learning we have been exploring the topic of 'germs.' As a class we thought about what germs are and what we can do to stop them spreading and making us poorly.

We took part in a whole class experiment to highlight the importance of washing our hands.

Three children were chosen and each put their hands in a different coloured glitter to represent three different types of germs.

The children then shook hands with each other and noticed that they now had lots of different types of germs on their hands when 'playing' with other children.

After that we had a go at washing our hands with and without soap. We found that the germs could only be washed off properly if the children used hot water and soap.

Money Money Money...

This week class 3 have had so much fun with their learning. We have carried on looking at our story 'The Great Dragon Bake Off' and have been writing our very own re-tells.

In maths we have carried on looking at division. The children had so much fun using a range of practical and pictorial resources to help us with out learning.

WE LOVE TO READ!

KS1 have had an amazing day celebrating everything.... READING! 

For world book day we have had some amazing character costumes and celebrations of vocabulary! We loved our reading party where we completed our sponsored read-a-thon. We read for 30 minutes in strange places around out classrooms. 

We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who sponsored KS1 for their reading! We raised an amazing £283 towards our classroom funds.
